Arlene Stafford-Wilson I suppose that could be some of the interesting 'characters' I've discovered while researching the family tree. There were great uncles who were injured in the war and spent time in prisoner of war camps. There were also great aunts who struggled with unique careers in times when there wasn't equality in the workplace. Their lives, along with their struggles and triumphs could definitely make a good plot for a book.
Arlene Stafford-Wilson The best way to deal with writer's block is to work through it. I make myself sit down and write, and although there are times when it doesn't flow as smoothly as other times, the work can always be edited later on.
Arlene Stafford-Wilson The best thing about being a writer is to be able to share stories from my own point of view. It's always rewarding to hear someone say that they feel like 'they were there with me' when they're reading a story from one of my books. When I hear that, I know that the story has served its purpose and the communication was a success.
Arlene Stafford-Wilson My best advice for aspiring writers would be to make sure that you incorporate writing into each day. It's often difficult to find the time to sit down and work on a story, so the easiest way to do it is to structure the time into your day, even if it's only a couple of hours. Pick your time during the day - and sit down and write during those hours without fail.
Arlene Stafford-Wilson I'm currently working on a book of short stories about places and people in Lanark County in the 1960s and 70s. The book will feature some small villages and interesting places that will be familiar to many from the area.
