Hat Trick

Rate this book
Hat Trick is an omnibus of three M/M sports romances from Space Fruit Press, all-new stories about queer guys trying to learn the rules — and score. While no previous sports knowledge or fitness level is required to enjoy these, we can’t promise they won’t raise your heart rate. Enjoy this triple play of queer romance, with a roster featuring opposing softball players who discover they might play for the same team, sweet acrobatic gymnasts forced to tumble together, and a basketball game that gets surprisingly kinky. Protective equipment is not required, so settle down and swing hard for the fences. Three stories where every game is played for No Batter, No Batter by Rena Butler When Kevin, a former college baseball star and current single dad with a spot on the local softball league, accidentally gets into a rivalry with a member of the other tam, he finds out there's a lot more for him to learn about being a player. If he's going to work out this thing between him and Dan, the surprisingly hot, loud guy behind the catcher's mask, Kevin's got to step up to the plate. Losing, Or Something Like It by Opal MoritzBasketball season is everything to Aaron, and he is sure his team can win against their neighborhood rivals. That confidence lasts right up until Sander walks on to the court. Sander was Aaron's big brother's nemesis on the courts, but it's Aaron who ends up sprawled out across Sander's lap when a post-game penalty spanking goes in a direction neither of them expected. Catch Me if I Fall by Augusta Connor Jacob is an ambitious, talented, and distinctly stubborn acrobatic gymnast who has worked too damn hard for his team to quit on him and expect him to be okay with it. When his coach offers him a partnership with Andy, the sunny redhead from the gym who Jacob's barely talked to, Jacob reluctantly agrees to try. But under the warmth of Andy's ever-present smile, Jacob finds himself ready to let go of old pain - and ready to fall.

Rena Butler is a woman of discerning taste, which has led her to a small collection of hippos, a larger collection of novels, and frankly far too many blank books and colorful pens. A native of the Eastern US, she likes her drinks bubbly and her desserts decadent. Her preferred vacation involves hot weather, good company, and not rising before noon.

Fantastic little trio of sports stories! Not a big sports fan myself, but it didn't matter at all with any of these stories. Each one is different, and two bring the heat while the third is perfectly sweet. Absolutely recommend for all sports fans, and for everyone who loves a good story of love and self-discovery!

While No Batter, No Batter is my favourite of the three stories in this anthology, all of them are super fun and great to read.

Also what gorgeous cover art! I know we're not supposed to judge a book by it's cover, but this one is SO eye-catching, it's hard not to immediately gravitate towards it.

This anthology was already worth it for the first story alone! "No Batter, No Better" by Rena Butler was both saucy and wholesome, with likable characters, a great pace, and an ending that had me grinning. The other two are also worth checking out, so you may as well pick up the anthology!

It's such an honor to be included in such a strong anthology. All three stories explore different types of queer relationships and relationships to sports, while really delivering on the narrative as well. One kinky, one light-hearted, and one sweet, and all three a good time.

Meant to review this back in the summer, but this anthology has three surprisingly good short stories. I could tell you the plots of all of them and remember the characters fondly even now months later.

I think my favorite is "Losing or Something Like It" by Opal Moritz. It features a character who doesn't know he's about to have something awakened in him when his friend's hot older brother delivers him a spanking in front of all of their friends after a lost basketball game. Childhood acquaintances/crush turned basketball rivals turned (light) dom/sub. Like WOW that spanking scene will stick with me for a WHILE. Would love to read more of these characters if Opal decides to write more in this universe.

Never knew what a public spanking scene would do to me, but here we are. 5/5 stars, do pass go, do collect a hot and unexpectedly sweet sporty romance.

I love sports romance stories, there's something about the high-pressure, competitive scenario, with protagonists driven to success, that can be really compelling, even when it's an amateur sport (like the softball league in "No Batter No Batter"). This collection of three stories is a rollicking read, each story is long enough to be satisfying, but also readable just before bedtime (when I do most of my reading). Very re-readable too!
