Burn for Burn #2

Fire with Fire

Rate this book
When sweet revenge turns sour… Book two of a trilogy from New York Times bestselling author Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian.

Lillia, Kat, and Mary had the perfect plan. Work together in secret to take down the people who wronged them. But things didn’t exactly go the way they’d hoped at the Homecoming Dance.

Not even close.

For now, it looks like they got away with it. All they have to do is move on and pick up the pieces, forget there ever was a pact. But it’s not easy, not when Reeve is still a total jerk and Rennie’s meaner than she ever was before.

And then there’s sweet little Mary…she knows there’s something seriously wrong with her. If she can’t control her anger, she’s sure that someone will get hurt even worse than Reeve was. Mary understands now that it’s not just that Reeve bullied her—it’s that he made her love him.

Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, burn for a burn. A broken heart for a broken heart. The girls are up to the task. They’ll make Reeve fall in love with Lillia and then they will crush him. It’s the only way he’ll learn.

It seems once a fire is lit, the only thing you can do is let it burn...

"An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. a burn for a burn. a life for a life. that's how all this got started and that's how it's going to end."

Dayum! That ending triggered shivers all over my arms and neck. This revenge game has completely gone out of hand and people are literally getting hurt. Lives are put at stake and now, we’re also talking about ghosts? Like actual ghosts! Gah! I don’t know what to say really, except that this series is like a fat worm used as bait for the clueless, helpless fish that I am.

The story and everything about it is engrossingly addictive despite the plot becoming darker and darker by the chapters. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Lillia’s story is super intriguing. Kat’s is surprisingly heartwarming while Mary’s is completely sinister. I just couldn’t stop reading. Also I know a lot of characters are getting hurt by this ship but I’m all aboard the Tabatsky-Cho ship. I couldn’t wait to read the last book!

P.S. Is it just my paperback copy or is everybody’s copy got “Lillia” as header for Chapter 25 when it’s actually Kat narrating?

Updates below!

After reading the last page of Burn for Burn, I thought. Wait. That's it?! and frantically flipped the pages to make sure I hadn't missed anything:

Needless to say, thankfully, there's a sequel. Looking forward to it!

Update 3/21/2014
WOW. So, Fire with Fire finally came out and provided some closure...until it didn't. The plot twist about Mary was mind-blowing, and the end left me terrified to see what Jenny and Siobhan have planned for these infuriatingly rash characters in the next book! Eagerly awaiting Ashes to Ashes!

Wow, I'm still panting a little bit after that ending. But I'll get to that later.

So Fire with Fire picks up not long after the big Homecoming Dance disaster. The girls got away with what they did but their plan went wrong because Reeve is now injured. And then of course, there's Mary, who knows that there's something wrong with her and that she had something to do with what happened at the dance, but is trying her best to deny it and hides it from the other girls. But Mary is also still hopelessly in love with Reeve, even though Reeve has been nothing but nasty to her all this time. When she finds out that Reeve has feelings for Lillia, she and the girls form a plan to make him fall even deeper in love with Lillia, and then crush him. But will things go as planned?

The thing I love the most about the books in this series is that they are SO readable and easy to devour. I finished the first book in two days, and I finished this one in two days as well, and it's a pretty thick book, too. Makes me feel as if the authors put some kind of spell on these books to make them impossible to put down. For me, maybe they're such fast reads because I really like the three girls, and each of them have their own distinct voices so that they never blend. I also really like the scenes where the three of them are together because their friendship just feels genuine, and I can't help but root for them when they're concocting their revenge plans. Maybe because I like tasting revenge myself.

Just like in the first book, this is pretty much 98% contemporary. There's really no real explanation on the supernatural aspect until the end, and even THAT was barely an explanation because it was so damn confusing. And while we're on the subject of the ending, oh boy . . . Okay, I really have to get this off my chest, because I want to discuss it with any of you who have read it. Spoilers ahead.

Okay, end of spoilers.

But spoilers aside, the ending was a massive, MASSIVE explosion, even bigger than the ending of the first book. The plot twist here was just mind-blowing, and I'm not sure if it's in a good way or bad way because it still confuses me to no end. And there is yet another cruel cliffhanger that makes me want to weep because I'll have to wait a whole nother year for the last book and to find out what the real T of the situation is.

But I'd definitely recommend this series to you all because the books really are very fast and enjoyable reads. Thank you's to Edelweiss and Simon & Schuster for sending me this galley!

A great follow up to the first installment in this series of Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian, reading Fire with Fire is like watching a chick-lit, mystery, and paranormal movie. Kat, Lillia and Mary's plans on getting revenge should be petty stuff only, however, things getting haywire when people started getting hurt and being killed.

The ending is also quite surprising because I did not imagine what Mary really is; I only assumed that there's something mysterious about her character, but I didn't expect her to be extraordinary. I even assumed that maybe she possessed superpowers because of her ability and it's funny that I thought that this would turn to some of the young adult science fiction/thriller books that I've read before. Thank goodness that my speculation is wrong and that the authors have a different take to the story.

Right after I'm done with this, I immediately start reading the third and last book. Let's see if the story will end good or if it will go downhill, and if I would still give a five perfect rating to it or not. I'm pretty excited to finally read on how this book series will conclude!

This was freaking AMAZEBALLS. Like, heck, I found a new favorite character – that itself is surprising. I’m not much of a character driven reader as a plot-driven one, but WOW THIS BOOK HAD THEM BOTH.

Picking up a week later after the events in Burn for Burn, we see the trio – Kat, Lillia, Mary – are still hanging out with each other (which gives me all the feels!), unbeknownst to Lillia’s popular gang of friends. To rid Mary off her grief and heartbreak, they decide that Reeve needs to get avenged with heartbreak similar to hers, and Lillia is up for the job. The series of events that occur is something they could’ve never imagined.

THE PLOT

I was worried that there wasn’t going to be anything to keep the plot going after everything that went down in the last book, but no! This is just as interesting, and emotional, and dwells so much on character development. And the plot twist was mind-blowing, even if most things were predictable up to that point. And even though, not everything was resolved in the end of this book, it was a huge cliffhanger which builds up so much potential for the next book to dwell on.

THE CHARACTERS and WRITING

The book is narrated through three povs – Kat, Lillia and Mary’s. I have to say this, even though the book is written by two people, it doesn’t feel like it at all. You can try all you want, but you can’t distinguish the lines between Han and Vivian, and it truly makes it all the more amazing. Also, the authors have succeeded in giving the three protagonists distinct voices that you have no difficulty in placing them whatsoever, its exceptional. Like, my edition of this book had the chapter titles missing, and still, I could easily identify who was narrating, just by the first sentence. Now, let me put it there fair and square –

KAT DeBRASSIO IS MY NEW FAVORITE CHARACTER. Totally. I love her bratty nature, her loyalty, her tendency to hide her grief, just about everything about that girl.
Also, Lillia Cho annoyed me a bit with her arrogant nature here. I mean she’s super rich, but in the first book, she’s sorta generous about it, but here she’s all showing off and spoilt.
As for Mary Zane, I didn’t like her enough in the first book either. I knew she was gonna get creepy by the end. And her non-stop pining over Reeve was absolutely unbelievable, I wanted to slap her. The side characters, Rennie, Reeve, Alex, Nadia – everyone’s so developed and have so much though put on them, it’s astonishing.

So, the point is, these characters feel so real and believable. I don’t know how they come up with such detailed characters.

THE ENDING

It was abrupt and jaw-dropping and nerve-wracking and everything that stands for thrilling and exciting. It was a freaking roller coaster. Even though not everything is resolved in this book, the way the girls bond gives us friendship goals and the ending hints that it might all fall apart. I don’t know what to think about it, but I sure as hell jumped right into the next book after that. And the hint of paranormal and supernatural elements was creepy, and I don’t really want them there, but the authors make it sound so realistic, I think they can pull it off.

So, just what are you waiting for? Grab your copy of next weekend and start the trilogy. It sure as hell is not going to disappoint and I wish with all my might that the next book would be even better :)

Initial review -

The number of times I had to look away from the book whispering OH.MY.GOD. speaks for how much this book shook me to the core.

I swear, Jenny Han is a witch, controlling my emotions. I've yet to read a book by her that didn't make me bawl like a streetdog.

An ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review. This did not alter or influence my thoughts in any way.

Disclaimer: If you haven't read Book 1, be cautious as this review may have some spoilers.

Now that that's done with...

GOOD LORD SWEET BABY JESUS. THIS BOOK WAS SIZZLING, I TELL YOU! SIZZLING GOOD!

Honestly, I'm not coherent right now. My feelings are all over the place and I don't think I'll be able to keep myself from gushing how madafracking awesome this book was and how it made me all cray cray. I'm still going back to certain chapters just to read and experience the heart-pounding and heart-melting scenes again, so full of held-back emotions that are just threatening to overflow. Hell, I'm actually reading those chapters right now and I'm feeling butterflies in my stomach. GUUH. If you thought Burn for Burn was good, dude, you're in for a mad ride with book 2 'cause this instalment was insanely better.

I don't know if y'all are aware of it, but I hate bad boys. I get grouchy like a cat whenever I encounter a handsome but bad/rebellious/arrogant guy in YA fiction and the heroine falls for him. I would always scratch my head and wonder what the hell could she be thinking? But this book... this book made me fall for bad boy, arrogant and cocky jock Reeve... isn't that just weird and astounding?! I hated him in Book 1, hated what he did to Mary and all the sneers and jeers he gave to everyone... I was so happy when he got what he deserved at the end of Burn for Burn because... well... he's a dick. Period. No question about it. But here? Oh my, ooh lala! My heart softened and melted like delicious peanut butter. NO JOKE.

So how did I transform from a Reeve hater to a Reeve fangirl? Let me tell you. Fire with Fire starts where Burn for Burn finished. Everything has pretty much ended for Reeve, but he's determined to get back to the sport he loves so much. Rennie starts hatin' on Lillia, and Lillia is clueless why the former has given her the cold shoulder — to the point of ignoring her mere existence. Kat can't wait to get out of Jar Island but is still conflicted with her feelings for Alex, and Mary still feels what they did to Reeve just wasn't enough. Then we find out Reeve has feelings for Lillia, and the trio has decided to give him the best punishment yet... make him fall in love with Lillia more and then crush his heart after.

To tell you the truth, I wasn't exactly happy with this premise. I didn't think it was as strong as the first one. And really, 518 pages on that alone?! I was wary, definitely. But damn... I need to be more trustful because this book fricking hit the nail on the head! The journey was fantastic! I learned to love Reeve — all his flaws and his strong points — and even rooted for him and Lillia even though I was originally pinning her with Alex. Sure he's a dick, he's an arrogant prick, he's a jock whose life ended after that one night... but (god, kill me now, I can't believe I'm actually saying this) that's all a façade. He's a good guy inside, full of dreams and hopes, and he's kind. He's kind to Rennie, and his somewhat bad boy/conceited asshole behaviour is his way of affection towards his guy friends. And while he and Lillia was developing, I just couldn't help but feel for him and see him in a new light. Sure, at first it was fake to Lillia, but it eventually started to become real for her, too... and our knowledge of that just made their relationship so heartrending.

I was pretty much like this all that time:

Yeah... that's pretty much it... hahaha.

I know, I'm only gushing about the romance. It was the highlight of the book and I think it was really written well. It made me just see the people I didn't like in a different light. But I guess the narration helped in making me feel this strongly, as the book was easy to read with very likeable voices. It's told in three POVs, three different girls, three different personalities, and they all stand out on their own. The book was very hard to put down, and I looked forward to every POV change, to see and witness the story unfold from a different pair of eyes... needless to say, it gave me quite a broader understanding of the situation.

And that ending... OMG, that ending. I think I've spoiled enough (I CAN'T HELP IT, OK?? I LOVED THE ROMANCE!! CAN I HAVE MY OWN REEVE PLEASE?! I'M ASIAN, TOO! >.<) so I won't say it, but goddamn that ending. I can't wait to see what else Han and Vivian have in store for us. Book 3 will be explosive, I tell you.

Do I recommend this? HELL YES. If you haven't read Book 1, get it now, and when September 3 comes, get this, too. Contemporary high school revenge/romance stories just can't get any better than this! <3

Final Verdict: 4.5 stars!

OH. EM. GEE.

Honestly I loved the first book in this series but I wasn't sure where the story was gong to go from there and I wasn't expecting this AT ALL! The twist at the end was so unbelievably unexpected to me, my jaw hit the floor! I LOVE this story and I need the next book! Im sp back and forth on all of these characters, I have love hate relationships with almost all of them because they all seem to do messed up stuff but they also all have redeeming qualities. The only character I love always Is Alex, he is the best! Its just such a crazy bond between our three main characters and I love that, I also love how these books show three different perspectives, its great!

If you haven't started this story yet, you should!! SO GOOD!!

4/5 Stars!

When I finished reading , I immediately jump for the second book Fire with Fire, the truth is that I couldn't wait to know what was going to happen, after that end of the first book, I had so many questions and so many feelings that I felt that without doubts I had to continue with this series.

In the first book the revenge of homecoming dance didn't come out as Lillia, Kate and Mary waited, so they decided after all that they have to stop once and for all and try to compose their lives again; But after everything that happened Revee continues to be an idiot and Rennie is more evil than ever, so the girls agree that it hasn't been enough and they embark on a plan in which Lillia will take care of that Revee falling in love with her and then break his heart once and for all, But of course guys, things will come out a little out of control ...

“It's crazy, how similar we are. Here's both of us, working through our stuff, trying to make something positive out of something really bad.”

I love the way the book is written, I like how it immediately makes me feel like I'm watching a TV show, the descriptions and spaces, which the writers have created, are amazing, in fact this is one of the things for which I can't stop reading these books. On the other hand, on this occasion I felt that it was difficult for me, at first, to connect with the plot, however interested that I was, there came a moment where I felt that all suspense and drama was lost, and the plot took a monotonous direction and I know that it's obvious that the girls have their lives, and they have to think about which university to go to ,and who are going to study and things like that, but I felt that it was an addition that don't add much to the main idea.

Even so, after a few rather boring chapters, I manage to get right into it and end up being as surprised or even more so than the first. And what I love most of these books I can say, without a doubt, that they are the endings , .they give you high impact endings with amazing twists in the plot, in a moment approaching me to the end, I had to take a break, because there was too much happening in a only moment, I love that !

Characters :

MARY: it's undoubtedly a character so interesting and full of content, but I think they haven't given her the space she deserved until the end, and as I enjoy reading her so much, I must confess that I've miss her a lot. But when Mary appears, it's great, I think it gives a great touch of suspense and intrigue to the plot, is a character that can always give more and surprise us, which is without doubt what she has done in this opportunity. OMG guys, the plot twist was excellent, I love it! I even feel like I want to reading it again, I wasn't expecting it at all, it was a surprise and I think I'm still a bit shocked. Points for the writers !! .

KAT: She's such a special person, I feel like Kat often says what everyone wants to say but no one dares, she's very brave, she's determined, she's sexy too, and without a doubt, she's a great pillar in history. Those things could change from one moment to another if she wants it and that's great! . Besides, she has shown the great friend that she is, to worry so much for Mary, it was a very beautiful friendship that is created in this book.

LILLIA: Well, I have a lot to say about this character, of which, most of them aren't good things lol, and I expected a lot from her in this book and sadly she has disappointed me. I thought that at last she would realize her mistakes and her silly decisions and she would learn, but not only didn't do that, but she still makes more mistakes and does even more stupid and meaningless things. I really tryed with her, I wanted her to like me but no guys, I can't, when there is such a nice friendship in the middle and she just goes and don't give a shit, I can't put myself on her side.

Of the secondary characters that I like most is Alex, the poor one gives me a little pity right now hahaha, but I think he's good, something silly , but good and I would like things to end well for him. I confess that I also like Rennie, and you must be thinking that I lost my mind , but not lol, I think the role of the evil queen b is necessary in this type of dramas and she has been a damn bitch many times, I know , but for some reason I couldn't come to hate her, not so much as Revee, which on the other hand, seems despicable to me, so yes, and the end has been too much for me.

I really want to continue this story soon, it's catching and I recommend it a lot, because the incredible thing about this is that, surely, you will find a character that you love, because the variety is incredible, I can't wait to see how everything ends, I know It will make me sad, it's so entertaining, I'll miss it, the island, the characters, everything, but I'll have to be brave and go for it

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD. HOLY PLOT TWIST. I DID NOT SEE THIS COMING!!!!!!!

Ok...ok...I'm trying to calm myself down.
I didn't like this book quite as much as the first one, mainly because all of the characters (besides Kat) were getting on my nerves pretty badly. Especially Lillia. Also, as you can see from my updates, I was really annoyed with certain things, like the fact that the word "slut" is thrown around so much and so carelessly. Still, this was a super-fast-paced read and the twists were INSANE. I still liked it a lot, and I'm seriously starting the third book right now.

Overall Thoughts
All I gotta say it that this was such a fun and addictive series! Not to mention just totally off the charts with insanity. It really ended up going somewhere completely weird and unexpected but totally awesome. The second book was by far my favorite cause it had the most twist and turns. And everything leading up to it was just pure fun high school drama and who doesn't enjoy that? lol Really enjoyed this series. Seriously, read it.

Until Next Time,

Burn For Burn was fun. Fire With Fire was another story. Much more complex with depth and more of a realistic backbone, the sequel to Burn For Burn surprised me entirely. If you were not the greatest fan of Burn For Burn, I believe that this one is still worth trying because it was a huge improvement. Sweet revenge turns sour...

Lillia, Kat and Mary were close to getting caught for drugging Reeve at Homecoming. So close. When Mary's grudge against Reeve does not go away, she seeks out Lillia and Kat's help to make him pay. As if already off the football team and football scholarship dreams gone wasn't enough. Despite Lillia and Kat's reluctance to plot Reeve's heartbreak they give in. Because what are friends for? I feel like the greatest improvement in Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian's series is that they reveal more depth in each of the girls' personalities. We learn more about their pasts and how the memories and unforgotten fights are effecting them now.

Lillia was my favourite girl in this book. She was awfully considerate to her peers and I honestly felt sorry for her as Rennie began to drift away from Lillia and make her life a living hell by attempting to take away her sister and friends. God Rennie is a bitch. She deserved what she got in the end. Anyway, we get to learn more about Lillia's traumatic past and how she is struggling to trust boys the same way once more. I do love her tight friendship with Alex--there wasn't any really chemistry between the two which was nice. Lillia goes through quite a lot in Fire With Fire, she's on a mission to break Reeve's heart as well as dealing with the bulling and little bit of racism from Rennie.

Kat is one of the tougher girls in this book. She was Rennie's ex-friend form a while back and hates her for ruining her life. I loved Kat's attitude, while she wasn't completely heart-less she had tough skin. Out of the three, Mary wasn't a favourite. She has been completely revenge driven and wants Reeve to pay the harshest fall. However a bit of her still remembers the Reeve she knew and loved years ago. She wishes the old Reeve was still here. I was rather confused by Mary to be honest. Did she like him or did she hate him? Her emotions were not really comprehendible.

An entertaining read with plenty of layers in each of the three girls, we watch them play with fire as they throw their revenge at the people that have once hurt them. Highly recommended if you have not tried out this series yet!

Burn for Burn was a book which I really adored last year; it was a fun contemporary with a different twist. I don’t know what I was expecting going into Fire with Fire, but it wasn’t this. Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian literally came out all guns blazing with this book. It was a story of three different girls coming together, but in particular the stories of Lillia and Kat really struck a chord with me.

I instantly connected with Kat and Lillia’s character in Burn for Burn, so I couldn’t wait to see how things would be different for them in this book. We barely touched upon these characters in the first book, but I really feel as if I got the chance to know them that much more. Despite Kat being tough on the outside and acting like she didn’t give a crap, I admired her strength in this book to actually go for what mattered to her most, her spot at Oberlin. It was always her mum’s dream and one that Kat wanted to fulfil. So getting Kat’s back story, and learning how much of an important role her mother and family played in her life I greatly appreciated. Her story really left a strong impression with me. I was at parts left with swollen eyelids after crying so hard.

The same can be said with Lillia’s story; my heart went out so much for these girls, as they really put their hearts on the line. Lillia really found her back against the wall in this book, she was torn between deciding with whether she should stick with what the girls had been telling her to do or whether she should listen to her heart. Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian did a tremendous job, in displaying the inner turmoil Lillia had to battle with. Her depth of feelings which she developed over the course of the book and having to constantly battle them away was so hard to watch. And then there was Alex, in my review of the first book I admitted that I didn’t know his true feelings and once again this was the case here. Alex was a great guy, who I adored from the first book, but I’m going to have to say that somebody else stole the limelight away from him in this book. I know we’ve been shown and told just how bad this other guy is and he deserved everything coming his way. But honestly my heart so went out for him. Yes he could be a punk at times, but the moments when he shared his sweet and tender side I loved! I need more of this guy right away!

Fire with Fire was a book which I thought would highly fixated upon the girls and getting their revenge. But it was a lot more than that, I loved Lillia’s and Kat’s stories, and to be honest that’s all I wanted, their stories. Whenever Mary popped up I really wanted to skip her chapters. I wasn’t able to connect with her character in the first book and this feeling just became stronger with this book. I understand she was hurt by what happened, but I think her idea of revenge just got totally got out of control in this book. I didn’t want Reeve to get hurt anymore, poor guy had already been put through so much and had his life completely side tracked because of the girls. And then when I got to know him that bit more I was even more against her plan. And as the story progressed she came across really deluded, with her lurking about and not considering that she had such great friends in front of her. However I thought I knew my feelings when it concerned Mary, but the ending just completely threw me. I honestly just don’t know what to think now.

Fire with Fire was an incredible follow up book from Burn for Burn. We’re thrown back together with a wonderful set of characters, some which just shredded away at my heart and others two in particular; Mary and Rennie which just left me enraged. With so much going on constantly, I never wanted this book to end. Also with things going off in so many directions I didn’t expect especially with that ending *shakes fist*. And the great depths we got to experience of my favourite characters made this a top read of this year for sure. I cannot wait to see where this story will go next, I’m sure there will be a lot of heartache and consequences to deal with in Ashes to Ashes.

I just picked up this book early last week before heading to a camping trip, I wanted to read it so bad it hurt! In fact, I actually missed a beach day to just sit in a lawn chair and read a couple hundred pages!! If you thought that burn for burn was good then you're going to absolutely adore fire for fire!! <> Jenny did an amazing job on this one; I loved everyone and everything about this book, the only part that had me stuck was that of Mary's... I was so lost I had to re-read some of her parts over. In the first part I though that Mary's aunt was totally crazy, out of her mind, but now, after reading this second book (and re-reading it~lol) I've come to conclusion that she is a ghost; the only thing I'm stumped about now is, how could Kat, Lillia, and Rennie (the night of Rennie's party) see her?... Nevertheless, I'm pretty excited for the next novel, 'Ashes for Ashes', to come out!! I love Reeve now, but I hope, in the second book, Alex gets some more clearance on his and Lillia's relationship. I feel almost like Lillia is stringing him along, which I don't like; I would love to hear about how he's feeling about the whole situation-Lillia & Reeve together, of course-and then I'd love to hear about Rennie again, even though she's supposedly dead. It'd be cool if she became a ghost like Mary, and since they both hate Reeve, they team up to kill him ( I know it sounds mean but I got this idea when, at the end she said,' an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a life for a life'... somethin' like that... Overall the book was fantastic; can't wait for 'Ashes to Ashes'! Goooo Jenny!

I'm not really going to write a review. I enjoyed this book, it was fast paced and I enjoyed the different point of views and seeing another side to some of the more villainous characters. That's all I really need to say about that. Now I need to get to the ending...
I was confused. My first thoughts when I finished the book was what the fuck just happened? I stayed up til four am to finish this book, and now that I've had some time to think about it, I think I get it.

Mary is a ghost(duh!). So how come she can be seen sometimes ?

Here is my theory...
Most of the time Mary is invisible, completely ignored. Her aunt Bette can see her. Why? Because she's a witch. I almost feel bad for her. At first I thought Bette just didn't want Mary to practice witch craft because she wasn't sure how to control it. I kept wondering why she didn't just try to train her. Now I understand she was terrified. She was being haunted. She watched this ghost go out and hurt people. She wanted to exorcise her I believe. When the mother showed up is was so confused, but I get it. She didn't believe in the ghost, at first. Until Mary got a little too upset and pretty much shook the house. There were only a few other times in the first two books where I remember Mary being seen, by people other than Kat and lilia. The first time was homecoming where reeve said big easy. I believe Mary can be seen when she is losing control, but I think she is seen the way she died. An overweight thirteen year old girl in soaking wet clothes. Also I think she needs to want to be seen. Reeve being high out of his mind at homecoming could also have something to do with it. The next time people saw her and acknowledged her was Halloween. First, Kats brother, then the cute boy, then reeve. I believe all of this has to do with it being Halloween. Bette said that the connection between the living ad the dead is strongest. I think she also appeared as the way she was dressed that night. This explains why reeve told her to go fuck herself. He must have been terrified, some random cute girl claiming to be the same girl who he drove to suicide five years earlier. I actually feel bad for him. The next time Mary was seen was by Rennie. I don't really understand this. Maybe because Mary's emotions were running so high? Maybe it was because she was at the ferry? Rennie definitely saw her the way she was when she died. That's why she asked about her parents, and wanted to take her to a hospital.
Even though I think I have things all figured out, I could be completely wrong. I still have no idea why lilia and Kat can see Mary, but I guess that's why a third book is coming out. We're not supposed to have all the answers yet. I do wonder if reeve found the pendent though, he probably was terrified if he did.

Gosh, that cliffhanger.

I went into this remembering close to nothing of Burn for Burn. But that's not a problem, because this book does a great job of reminding you of what happened previously.

I really liked the characters because it's really easy to distinguish between them. So even though it's narrated from three people, it's not confusing. The side characters are great too, especially Alex.

The ending leaves you with a ton of questions. Like, what whaaaat? Things add up and then they don't.

Words cannot convey how much I enjoyed this book. Burn for Burn was a bit of a bummer for me but Jenny Han and Siobhan turned my opinion right around with this. WOW. Prepare to be amazed and rendered speechless with their stroke-inducing plot twist!!!!

Finally found it on sale so let's do this...
It's a thic bitch... WHY?
It's somehow better than Burn For Burn and surprisingly i really enjoyed it. Also i couldn't put it down and yes i too am shocked about that.
Oh yeah the plot twist isn't mind blowing as some people said. It's stupid and who the fuck didn't see it coming?

I KNEW IT! I KNEEEEEEW IT!
Sorry I just had to point out that I knew it, because I KNEW IT!!!!!!!!!
That ending was unacceptable. It left on such a huge cliffhanger.
This book was even better than the first one, and I adored the first one.

Oh. My. God.

What on earth did I just read?

First of all, I'd have to say that I'm not a fan of contemporary books and don't read much of that genre. But this book right here just swept me off my feet! Yes, it's just that good.

Spoilers Ahead

I'm sure we all want a taste of revenge, especially to those who once hurt us the most. And that's exactly what Lilia, Kat and Mary are after, sweet revenge. After their little avenge-gone-wrong at homecoming, the girls decided to rest the matter. But what of Rennie's wretchness and Reeve's douchebaggery? Just as they say, some people never do learn from their lesson and it's time they get a taste of their of medicine. Just as the girls found out the perfect plan to crush both Rennie and Reeve, they have a huge flaw in their plan, Lilia had actually fallen in love with Reeve.

Oh gosh do I adore these girls. Each of the girls are different in so many ways and you will never mix up any of their POVs. Lilia as the classy, Mary as the observant and Kat as the badass. It doesn't feel like two authors trying to write three POVs, it feels like three vivid people sharing their thoughts. Just loved it!

It was a waste that Lilia actually went off with Reeve. I mean, Reeve just isn't worth it! Especially when she has Alex by her side. Alex is much more considerate and sweet, as in he doesn't treat people as his playthings just as what Reeve did. Seriously, if it were me who bullied my schoolmate to the point where she commits suicide I would've apologized on the spot and be buried by grief. But then again, I wouldn't be that mean in the first place. But I guess that he is sincere to Lilia, I don't know...

Then we have good ol' Kat. It's really cute when she stood up for Mary and Lilia whenever they need her. Especially when Lilia told them that she was basically raped by a stranger. Kat did not even hesitate once when she said she wanted to look for those people and make them pay. I would be awesome to know that you'd have such a friend to back you up no matter what. I cannot comprehend what was on Rennie's mind when she broke off their friendship. I honestly can't.

Okay, I'd have to admit that I didn't see the Mary thing coming. So...the Mary we've read from is actually a ghost of the dead Mary? That is so off. I mean, who would not know when themselves are dead. Hmm...that sentence sure sounds weird, but anyways. So she doesn't know that she was dead for the whole time ?? And boy that cliffhanger--it's killing me already!

I hope that the sister bond carries on in the last installment. Oh well, here goes another year of waiting...

MIND OFFICIALLY BLOWN!
Lillia is defiantly my favorite character in the story for sure, has been from the start. at the beginning I really hope that Reeve and Mary would end up together even after everything they've been through (which would be crazy) But I haven't ever seen that kind of plot line before (eleamentry school bully falls in love with victim in high school, etc.) But it isn't going that way I'm okay with it! Reeve is actually my favorite character (then Lillia) I feel like there's so much more to his story that we don't know about. I feel like there are reasons to his actions and Lilla breaking his heart broken my. I personally don't think he deserves what's being thrown in his face the last 5 years...no his whole life. Mary and the end there... so crazy! It all makes so much sense now! I didn't even think her being a ghost was an option. I'my so ready for book three and Mary haunting them, maybe Rennie is going to join her.. oh idk we'll have to read and see♡
