It was hard to imagine how Claire's day could get any worse... And then the vampires holding her hostage wanted breakfast.

In the town of Morganville, vampires and humans have learned to live in relative peace. Still, Claire Danvers knows that after dark, her homework often takes a backseat to staying alive. This fragile harmony is shattered with the arrival of Mr. Bishop.

Bad to the bone, the ancient, old-school vampire cares nothing about maintaining peace—staying at the top of the food chain is enough for him. What he wants from the town’s living and dead is unthinkably sinister. It’s only at a formal ball, attended by vampires and their human dates, that Claire realizes Bishop’s plan—and the elaborately evil trap he’s set for the warm-blooded souls of Morganville...

"Thrilling, sexy, and funny! These books are addictive. One of my very favourite vampire series."—Richelle Mead, author of the international bestselling Vampire Academy series.

Ok. Let me begin with the negative stuff because I really want to be done with it asap and then go on about how amazing this book was.

We get such an awesome plot and characters, would it be too much to ask for some consistency in the world building too? At first, vampires needed an invitation to enter the Glass House. I get that. Then, the humans needed an invitation instead. I get that too. Now everybody’s strolling in and out like nobody’s business and it’s driving me nuts!

Also, I know that writing about parents can be boring, but when you’re doing the YA thing you can...

a) Have them killed early on,

b) Make them douchebags who don’t give a rats' ass about their kid, or

c) Have them physically or mentally unable to do to it.

Claire’s healthy and loving parents come and go whenever it suits the plot, and even though I’m not interested in reading about them, the whole thing just feels wrong.

Okie, done with that. Now to the good stuff.

I don’t know what happened to Claire from books 1-2-3, but I’m a huge fan of this Claire from book 4. It does make sense. She was a lost and frightened kid in the first books, but now that she knows the rules of the game she can put that sharp mind of her’s to use and I LOVE HER. Team Claire all the way.

I think that in the previous books, Claire was shinning through everybody else, but in this one the dynamics of the relationships change. She is no longer the baby of the house, not to big bro Michael, not to boyfriend Shane, not to best friend Eve. She is their equal in every way that counts and she does a pretty good job protecting them from enemies and from themselves.

Here's my Claire with Shane btw...

What I love about this series is that you never know who the kids can safely consider as their friend or their foe, for the simple reason that there are no good and bad characters in Morganville. There are just alliances that are built for a certain purpose and once it’s fulfilled, you never know what the frenemies will do.

The previous books were both action packed and strong on the suspense element, but I loved what the writer did with this one. There was an uneasy calm before the thunderstorm throughout the book. Like, you know that something awful is gonna happen and all you can do is wait to see who will go down first.

And there is nobody coming to the rescue and OMG it’s 1 a.m. and I MUST go to bed but WAIT, just one more page and and and...

erm...

You get the meaning.

Fix the consistency thing, Morganville!
And do something about about those parents!
Thnx.

4 Not All Parties Are Fun Stars

After having to fight for their lives with crazy vampires and even crazier anti-vampire fanatics nothing should be able to scare our heroes anymore, until a strange vampire walks through their door. A vampire so bad that even the worst vampires in Morganville seem to be afraid of, one who claims to be Amelie's father. Who knew the Ice Queen actually had family that was even scarier than her?

The vampire isn't alone. He has with him 2 extra vampires way too dangerous on their own right and the female has sadly taken an unhealthy interest in Shane. But the worst is that they have Claire's parents with them and they bring grand news. They are moving to Morganville...

But Oliver and Amelie can handle them... Can't they? It doesn't seem so certain after it becomes quite obvious that the vampires have zero wish to leave Morganville or when Amelie is ready to throw a party, a deadly one at that, in honor of her father. How can Claire keep her friends safe when she seems to be the only one NOT invited to the feast?

This book is a turning point for the series. For the first time we see Amelie and Oliver put aside their silly grievances and work towards a common goal, getting rid of a dangerous enemy. The usual risks are still there though. Amelie's view of what is an acceptable loss to succeed in the long run isn't the same as Claire's. For Amelie the loss of a few lives is just an afterthought if it means saving the town but Claire can't allow her friends and family to be the casualties of the vampires' war for survival.

It's obvious that Claire has grown up a lot. The change started in the previous book and was more semented in this one. She is becoming quite the badass. Shane was also much more mature in this one although he still fought over silly reasons. The only one I was kind of annoyed with was Michael who is starting to grow more and more distant from his friends by keeping secrets and inadvertently hurting them.

It's also nice to finally see the people of Morganville, humans and vampires, working together for once. I'm sure they will go back to "us against them" once the problem with Bishop(Amelie's dad) goes away but until then they kick ass.

My only problem was with the freaking protection of the Glass House. WHat the hell is up with that? First Vampires couldn't enter without invitations because Michael was human. Then humans couldn't enter because Michael is a vampire. Now neither vamps nor humans can enter? Which would be fine with me, I would accept the explanation that since Claire, Eve and Shane live in the house along with Michael the vampire protection is for them. But at odd times the protection seems not to be working. It comes and goes without any explanation. I did love the way the house threw Ysandre and Francois on their asses though. Wish mine would throw unwanted visitors out like this too.

"Will you swear?" And Myrnin said, shockingly "I will." And he proceeded to, a string of swear words that made Claire blink. He ended with, '-frothy fool-born apple-john! Cheater of vandals and defiler of dead dogs!" and did another twirl and a bow.

Well Feast of Fools, definitely isn't a filler book. Although slow in the middle, it was probably the best one yet! Do these just keep getting better? Hmm...interesting.

I loved every minute of this one. I think it's safe to say I love Myrnin more now, and I know my love for him is going to keep growing. He's so incredibly scary, but fascinating, I think he's one of the most intriguing characters in this series so far.

Rachel Caine just keeps it coming. It's all constant, doesn't lack action; and is just incredible. Rachel Caine, manages to keep the back story up at the start of the book if people decide to just join in in the middle (not that you would), or if you need a refresher of after an MV break. So it doesn't lack information. She manages to make twists and turns through out, shocks, and cries. Swoons, and loves. Feast of Fools has it all, even a mega cliffhanger!

As I said at the beginning, this book isn't a filler. It's a continuance of an epically good vampire series, and one I've needed to read for a while now. I'm so glad that I am. I just want more and more.

All my favourite characters return, and some of the non so favourite characters, but that's what makes the story great. The one big thing I loved about this book was the way every Morganville vampire came together in their time of need to try and overthrow Master Bishop (unsuccessfully I might add). Vampire nemesis like Amelie and Oliver come together for the sake of the town, and I love the strength that Caine showed us in this book. Bringing everyone together for the sake of the town and it's residents.

Anyway, this book was great. That cliffy at the end was a killer! But, luckily for me, I had Lord of Misrule right at my side and ready to begin. And I've begun and I can't wait to get more, and more, and more! Because there are, more, and more!

Amazeballs!

Feast of Fools is the fourth installment of the Morganville Vampire Series, and it was a bit slower placed than the first three books. However, it did deliver an explosive ending with a signature series cliffhanger. I’ve become vested in the main characters of this series, which includes Claire, Shane, Eve and Michael. I like how their actions and loyalty toward each other remains consistent from book to book, and it was nice to see Shane begin to accept Michael as a vampire.

In this book, three new baddies enter the town of Morganville, including Amelie’s father Bishop and his two evil sidekicks François and Ysandre. As part of an ancient vampire ritual, they must host a feast for Bishop, but the true intentions of the vampire elite are not revealed until the final hours of the show.

As with the other three books, I was kept riveted with the steady paced events and interested as new characters entered the scene and caused their fair share of havoc. Regardless of this book being a little bit slower paced, it was fun to read and interesting to learn more about the vampire lore. Great series that’s moved to the top of my list as one of my fave vampire series. On to the next installment to see what becomes of Shane’s fate. Why did she give him the book!!!??? Gah!

This was definitely the most exciting installment thus far. A new threat comes to Morganville. An outside threat. Enemies become allies as the town bands together to protect itself. We get more of Myrnin, which made me happy. I love Claire’s development, and Shane is growing on me. The relationships in the series really make the story, which is why I was so happy to see those on opposite sides banding together in the face of a common enemy. As with the preceding novel, this book ends on a cliff hanger. It’s one of the most episodic series I’ve ever read, and really feels like reading a tv show. I dig it. On to the next installment!

“Crap, are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

"I'm thinking we have about fifteen vampires and no blood," Claire said. "Is that it?"

"No, I was thinking we're out of chips. Of course that's what I was thinking.”

As these books continue, I find I am less and less concerned with what will happen to Morganville and its' inhabitants and more concerned with when Shane is going to break and finally "do" Claire. Not that I condone that sort of thing, but it's a book and seriously, there is only so much tension you can build in a book before it starts to get repetitive. So, my unauthorized and likely, unwanted, opinion is, let it happen or kill Shane off. Finally, the other beef I have is that the reader is left hanging at the end of every book. And it's significant enough that if you don't read the next book quickly enough, you lose the thread. But, for a vampire series, these aren't half bad.

I try to express only my most honest opinion in a spoiler free way. If you feel anything in my review is a spoiler and is not already hidden in spoiler brackets please let me know. Thank you.

This book has to be the most edge-of-your-seat, nail biting, suspenseful books of them yet. Even when everything was as a supposed calm, you just knew that crazy stuff was right around the corner.

I love Claire. She never does anything I expect her too. She's this small, helpless, but smart teenage girl, but she has more guts then almost every other character in the book. At the same time she is caring and compassionate. Even after someone tries to kill her she still tries to help them, or stand up for them. She is a far better woman than me, thats for sure.

As for Shane, ah Shane. I love how quick he is to come to the girl's defense, and even Micheal's, when he isn't be a complete jerk him being a vampire. However, he is so immature and hot-headed. It's just not my type at all, but still I love him.

Eve is the character I relate to the most in this book. She's sassy, she doesn't care what anyone thinks of her, and she will tell you EXACTLY what she thinks of you, your action or your plans. But she has got a kind heart and will defend her friends to the end.

Micheal is amazing. I get why Eve is into him. Outside of the musician thing. He does what he has too, even if he REALLY doesn't want to. Expecially in defense of his friends. His maturity is a HUGE upside for me too.

Just wanted to mention a few things on some other characters too. Amelie makes hate her so very much and yet still I can't help but like her. Oliver, what is his deal. He's always jumping around and saving everyone he's clearly a bad guy. Why do people keep trusting Jason? He's obviously not at all trustworthy. And finally Myrnin. He's completely insane and highly dangerous, but he might be my favorite character in this whole series so far.

This series was made for TV. I looked into it and apparently they tried but it didn't really take off. I'm thinking they must have messed it up on the TV end because this series is straight up gold. Its full of lovely drama that always ends on a cliffhanger promising bigger and better next book. I'm honestly not sure my heart can take a full 15 books of this, but I'm more than willing to risk it for this series.

One more thing to note. I don't think Claires parents are very good parents. I don't care how mature and smart your daughter is. Why would you send her so far away at 16? As a mother of a daughter, this blows my mind. Then they find out that she is living with three adults, two of them men, and while they do at least say something, its nothing compared to what I would expect from a 16 year old girls parents. My final point might be a bit of a spoiler so I'm going to hide it in spoiler brackets so read at your own risk. Just saying.

This series definitely gets me all riled up, which to me is the mark of a good book. I'm always excited to read the next book and I find that I can't put one down once I started it. 5 stars to both the book and the series.

How I choose my rating:
1* Hated it. Had to force myself to finish it.
2** Didn't really like it. Didn't hate it but not sure why I finished it other then for some closure.
3*** I liked it. I had some issues with it, but as a whole it was good. I probably won't reread again ever, but there is a chance I might finish the series. (If part of one) But if not it's not a huge loss.
4**** I really liked this book. Maybe not a work of genius, but highly entertaining. I might reread this again, and I will finish the series. (If part of one) I would recommend to those I know hold interest in this books content.
5 I loved this book. I found little to no issues with it at all. I will definitely be rereading this and probably more than once. I will finish the series and reread it multiple times. (If part of one) I will recommend this book to EVERYONE!!!!

Rachel Caine has done it again. She starts FEAST OF FOOLS like she does the other books in the Morgenville Vampire series - right in the middle of the action which grabs you by the hair, yanks you in, and won’t let go until the story is over.

At the end of MIDNIGHT ALLEY, the foursome living in the Glass House gets some unexpected visitors in the form of Claire’s parents and (in Buffy the Vampire Slayer Speak) the Big Bad - Mr. Bishop A.K.A. Amelie’s “father.” With him in town there has to be trouble a-brewin’.

On top of the trouble that is inevitably on the way, Claire has to deal with the stress of her parents being in town. She is, of course, worried about their safety, but also has to convince them that she isn’t going to move in with them - that she is perfectly capable of staying at the Glass House. Claire’s duties to Amelie are still a high priority which requires that she continues her work with Myrnin while at the same time making it to all of her classes during the day.

The Big Event (where everything hits the fan) takes place during an invitation only masquerade feast. Claire manages to get herself an invitation and is front row center when everything comes to a head. Mr. Bishop is in Morganville for one reason and if he doesn’t get what he wants he will declare war on those that oppose him. Battlelines are drawn, people are in danger. You’ll never believe how this one ends.

Rachel Caine is an amazing writer. She writes so vividly that you can picture everything that is happening in your head like a movie. As crazy as it sounds, I feel like I know the characters from the book and I love the developing relationships between Claire and Shane / Eve and Michael. The one drawback to the series is they are definately NOT stand-alone novels. If you picked up FEAST OF FOOLS without having read the other three in the series I think you’d be lost. So, take my word for it. If you haven’t read GLASS HOUSES, THE DEAD GIRL’S DANCE, and MIDNIGHT ALLEY go do it right now! You won’t regret it.

Feast of Fools is a happy middle between action and intrigue and the pace holds steady through the entire novel. Claire continues to be a huge naive dummy about danger and has basically no sense of self-preservation despite knowing half of Morganville wants her hurt or dead \o/ We got more of Mr. Bishop and a pretty cool plot twist involving him and his blooood. Myrnin also has his moment to shine and I really love just how complex he is as a character.

Warnings for non-consensual kissing, harassment, more bullying, and a cliffhanger ending.

Feast of Fools is the fourth book in the Morganville Vampire series. Again it picks up right where the previous book had left off. Claire's parents have moved to town adding more people for Claire to worry about. A few new vampires have shown up that don't seem to have the best of intentions.

With all books in a series I try to keep my reviews a bit vague as I don't want to add much in that would spoil things but with this particular book there wasn't much to even talk about. Easily the slowest so far without much action at all in it. Honestly felt like most of the plot happened in the last two or three chapters and even then there wasn't too much overly exciting.

Probably a 2.5 in all actuality for this particular book as I spent most of it waiting for more. Hopefully the story picks up in the next book.

The stakes have been raised and I mean that pun intended! Claire is slowly becoming more of a badass rather than a scared little girl. She can't do much against the vamps but she manages for the most part. I have a feeling she will be very important for the rest of the series. Seems like overall the series is picking up. I still have minor annoyances usually revolving around Shane being a dumbass, but I'm really enjoying this series.

As evidenced on page 213, whilst describing a scary film they were watching;

"Being hunted by a city full of zombies might have seemed like a relief in some ways - at least you knew whom to run from, and who to run toward."

the beauty of these books is that the line between 'good vs. evil,' is so blurred. Claire runs to Amelie for help often, yet Amelie was willing to sacrifice her to Myrnin in Midnight Alley. Oliver was the 'bad guy' in Glass Houses, yet is a saviour in Feast of Fools. Even Myrnin himself, having been such a risk to Claire in the previous books, has a heroic part to play!

I don't know whether to denounce Oliver or wax lyrically about him!

My thoughts and feelings on this book are identical to those of the others in the series so far. This book, however, ended far less dramatically than the others.

Claire is still working on a cure for the disease, all while going to school, hanging out with her friends and dealing with her parents moving to town. Emelie's father, Bishop, has come to Morganville, complicating the power dynamic. A big feast is planned to welcome him, but it may be cover for something else to occur.

This one kind of ends right in the middle of things, so I'll definitely be adding the next one to my queue of books because I need to know what happens. I'm still enjoying the series overall. I especially like how Claire is slowly maturing and transforming from a girl that lacks self-confidence to a young woman that is willing and able to stand up for herself and her friends.

Are there cookbooks in Morganville? There has to be more to life than spaghetti and not knowing how to make breakfast... Alas, this is Claire's life, forced to make breakfast with zero clue what to do and roommates that are just about as clueless as she is. Can someone please send the Glass House a cookbook?

I did like the deeper plot that wasn't so focused on romance because the immaturity grates on my nerves.

Myrnin is still the best character in the book.

Emily shows her darkER side and the parents come in with parental advisory blazing.

3 Stars-Why did I ever rate this 5 stars....

These books are fun because they're short and have a lot going on so I just fly through them. I also like seeing more into how the vampires feel and their histories, plus the cool things Claire develops with Myrnin and her relationship with Shane getting stronger. There's so much craziness and drama that it's nice the author still takes some time for Claire, Shane, Eve, and Michael to hang out and be normal teenagers. Those moments help balance everything out. Monica continues to be the worst person in the series and I hope she eventually gets what's coming. I'm looking forward to book 5!

I am enjoying this series...it's not the most fabulously written thing I've ever read, but it is entertaining, and this book was no exception.

The reason that the rating is so low is that there was a MAJOR continuity issue that bugged me all the way through the book. At the end of the previous book, one of the main characters was shot. There was much discussion about his bullet wound, and the smoking hole left in the pocket of the jacket of the person who shot him. In this book, the same character is recovering from a STAB wound. I'm not sure how that even happens...I mean, even if the author did forget what happened in the last book she wrote, you'd think any editor worth his or her salt would've caught such a glaring error. Which made me wonder if she changed the nature of the injury intentionally. So I spent a lot of the book pondering what should have been a fairly minor part of the story.

This was probably my least favorite so far. I really am enjoying Myrnin and all his craziness. Claire is really starting to grow up. This one has lots of drama. Damn Bishop and his crazy ideas. Like really he expects all the vampires to bring humans as a symblic sacrifice, i'm sorry what? Lunatic, I daresay he's craazier than our beloved Myrnin. But that is ok we have Clair and Myrnin to save the day and put Bishop in his place. Amelia is becoming a quite annoying character. Why would you use our resident psycho Myrnin....not cool Amelia. Of course Eve is as great as ever in all her black attire glory. She's such a kick ass character. I will say it again I am glad to be re-reading this series

Rachel Caine hasn't let me down yet. Again another amazing installment in the Morganville Vampires Series.

In the fourth book we find out more of the secrets of Morganville and find out what Bishop wants. There is never a moment of peace but that makes for one fantastic read. The characters are brilliant as always and it was good to see Myrnin was in this book. I love Claire and Shane's relationship, their moments together always bring a smile to my face.

Awesome series. A must read!

Oh my gods. This one was off the MF chain.
Amelie’s dad(?!) rolls into town on the heels of Claire’s parents. And secrecy and deception reign.
There’s a coup. There’s danger and sacrifice. There’s confusion and betrayal. Claire, fool that she is, makes a big play (for her anyhow) and aligns herself. She’s actually the first of all humans and vamps to step beside Amelie.
Shit. Goes. Down.
I hate that this is an 8 book set bc I’m gonna have to go back and mark it as reading and then somehow don’t count it for my total read… unless I just don’t count one of the books but I need to review them all lol.

In the last book we were left with a cliffhanger. The Bishop, Amelie's father has come to town – and so has Claire's parents. The Bishop is dangerous, threatening and powerful...

And we open the book basically in the same situation. Big threatening bad guy and Claire's parents hanging round. And then we enter a holding pattern. I said the same thing about Midnight Alley and, sadly, I have to say it again, there's very little plot to review.

There are events. Claire spends a long time worrying about the big bad vampires, worrying about her dad, worrying about Shane, worrying about Myrnin in his cage, worrying about, well just about everything. But nothing actually happens. No plot moves forwards, nothing is advanced. There are events – but even less of them than there were in the last book. Claire goes to university, Claire drinks coffee. Claire's relationship with Shane continues (without developing), Claire keeps studying the vampire disease, Eve's brother Jason hangs around and is creepy. Eve's father dies and they go to the funeral. Shane and Claire go to the blood bank and give blood. Michael plays the guitar at Common Grounds and is good at it

I hate to present a long paragraph with just random bitten out events but that's pretty much the book.. Even in there were more events to reference, but not here. I wouldn't mind if the events were good for foreshadowing or character development or world building, but even then there were too many of them without plot scenes interspaced - but most of them don't seem to add anything. They feel like filler scenes - and most of the book is like that. Worse, all of the foreshadowing of the Big Bad is told and told and told and told and never shown, it's vexing.

And it continues like this until we get to nearly 90% - and that is when the bad guys make their move, there is a great big showdown and the powerful, dramatic aftermath and hints of a long time campaign to come. Bishop makes his move, Amelie responds and fights back, lines are drawn, humans and vampires come together it looks like a rocking battle and a truly great story will begin here, filled with tension and reluctant alliances and fights for the whole town... except it started at 90%. It's really sad because she could have put this at the beginning of the book and gone on from there and actually had a fascinating plot. At least I have some hope for the next book.

Feast of Fools starts off where Midnight Alley left off. The Glass house has been taken over by a vampire, Mr. Bishop, who claims to be Amelie's father. He has big plans for the humans and vampires of Morganville, and he, along with his evil cronies, will do whatever it takes to put them into motion. It all comes down to the masked ball where the vampires bring human dates. Who will pledge loyalty to Mr. Bishop, and who will stick with Amelie?

I really enjoy anything that Rachel Caine writes. All of her characters have an interesting past, and the development of them has been great over the course of four books. I think Claire is finally learning when she needs to back off, and let other people take care of things; especially with the addition of her parents in Morganville, because one wrong move could put them on the chopping block.

Claire and Shane's relationship is growing, and they both want to take things to the next level. But Shane continues to be the good guy and stick to his guns (unfortunately for the reader). This only makes Shane more likeable in my opinion. He knows what he wants, but he knows that he can't have it...yet.

My favorite character is still Myrnin. The addition of him in Midnight Alley added a whole new level of intrigue to the story. With the new serum Claire has been working on to help him, and the other vampires, he's able to stay out of his cage for longer. This had me on edge because I was just waiting for him to attack Claire at any minute.
Monica is still as evil as ever! She is the biggest bully for a college gal. I wish she would get what was coming to her, because it seems that several near death experiences aren't cutting it! How many times does Claire have to save her before she leaves her alone? There is one scene that had me fuming. I felt so bad for Claire.

This series always ends on a cliff hanger, which I've gotten used to now that this is the fourth book. It's kind of nice because the story keeps continuing instead of jumping to a new problem/plot. It's like one long book if you piece them together. Feast of Fools was quick and enjoyable, and I look forward to reading the fifth in the series, Lord of Misrule.

I’ve been having trouble working up enthusiasm for the Morganville Vampires books, they seem to be a little hit or miss to me. After a break after the third book I did find the fourth book, Feast of Fools to be an enjoyable read. Much like the third book, this one adds a new character who brings a new element to the story, which also indicated that there is now a bigger picture forming that the series will focus on which wasn’t all that apparent in the first two books. With the combination of new information from the third book, Midnight Alley, and the new character and the disruption he brings to Morganville my interest is definitely now higher in the series. But there is still something I find lacking in this series that doesn’t keep me gripped. I don’t feel particularly attached to the main characters, while they are reasonably likably I don’t love them like some characters in other series which means I don’t feel overly invested in what happens to them. Then there is a lack of danger and excitement in the storyline itself, perhaps it is a slow build given how long this series is, but it’s being pieced together very slowly and none of the main vampire characters are particularly interesting either, nothing about them makes me want to know more about their past and how they came to be now. Overall, while the new element introduced in this book is mildly interesting, it’s still not a gripping read.

This is the 4th book in a YA series written by Rachel Caine (she does the Weather Warden series as well).

This book has the same romantic tension between Claire and Shane- along with some sinister events happening in the town of Morganville.

Morganville is a town where vampires live freely among humans- with humans being kept (for lack of a better word) by various vampires. Some are good, most are bad, and all the humans are doing is trying to survive!

A fun installment that has quite a cliff-hanger at the end. I encourage you to pick up this series and give it a try!

The Morganville Vampires

Feast For Fools

Rachel Caine

I read book four in this day too!

Claire is working for the crazy vampire Myrnin

That cliffhanger is Amelie's (boss lady) father in the form of the The Bishop

Everyone is on edge

Shane is recovering from getting stabbed (yer he got stabbed)

Michael plays pretty music and is being a weird vampire

Eve is struggling to deal with her crazy brother Jason (weirdo)

There's a ball?

Crazy vampire Myrnin takes Claire

Shit goes down

Plan.

Yer that sums it up I believe!
