My initial thoughts about the book before reading it
- Single dad
- Didn't let his wife drive while he was drunk and had an accident in which he and his son survived but his wife died
- Lives a life of guilt with his autistic son
- Has one-night stands but doesn't do relationships
- Thinks of his dead wife all the time
- Falls for the heroine slowly (enemies to lovers)
- Heroine is a much too positive woman (annoying maybe?)
- Unplanned pregnancy
I don't think I will be able to forgive this hero and root for his happiness. I hate the unplanned pregnancy trope, as well :(

Then I saw too many of my friends loving it, (some loving it nearly as much as they loved "The Hating Game", which is one of my favorite books) and finally, I gave in to my curiosity and with the encouragement of my friends, I started reading the book.

My thoughts after reading the book
I am sorry but I hated the book.
Here are my reasons:
1. Firstly, I was dreadfully bored.
After the first half of it, it got even more unbearable for me and the options for me were either "DNF it" or a "skim-scan & finish it quickly". I preferred to skim and scan the second half of the book to get to the end of it. I even couldn't read the epilogue properly. So very boring!
"Hero, heroine & a child" combination rarely works for me in my romance books. That's why, I always avoid such books. Sadly but not surprisingly, this book was no exception.
Harrison, the hero's son, plays one of the leading roles in the book. I like love stories that revolve around the hero & the heroine because when there is a child included, the romance loses its leading role in the story and it becomes more a family thing than a lovers thing, which makes it boring for me. Again, it's me, not the book.
Therefore, if you do not avoid romance books that revolve around children, just ignore this number 1 comment of mine :)

2. Too easy!
I like it when the hero works for it and the heroine makes him work for it. The other way around... uhm, nope, it doesn't work for me.
The heroine in this book, Ellen, practically jumped on Flint and offered sex whenever he wanted. I don't like it this way so the beginning of their affair was the kind I like the least.
Even Flint, the hero, told her not to be that easy!
Yikes!
“You know, I don’t require a fancy night out. I’m good with sex if that’s what you need.”
“You really should make guys work a little harder for it.”

3. Heroine not my cuppa!
In general, the heroine wasn't the type of person I could like. She felt too chirpy, too positive, too affectionate, too forgiving, too quirky etc.. - shortly, too unreal.
Her constant humming, her keeping a pack of rats as pets and her over the top easy-going manners totally annoyed me. I would never befriend such a person in real life. She is an unappealing character for me...
Also, she is obsessed with touching the hero here and there, fixing his tie, collar of his shirt etc. even before they are together as lovers. However much I need touching, I would never do it on a person who didn't invite me to do it. That made her seem even more annoying to me.
Actually, she is not a bad person, she is just not my person!

4. Unlikable hero
I didn't hate the hero as much as I expected I would. I just didn't like him.
I think it really is impossible for me to like a "once a chauvinistic pig", who refused to give the keys of his car to his wife when he was drunk and killed her in the accident he caused while drunk-driving.
It didn't matter how much he regretted. It was impossible for me to forgive and like him.
He did feel guilty.
He did wish he had died himself rather than his wife in that accident.
He really missed his wife.
He really was awfully sorry.
Too late buddy, too late! She is dead!
There are things in life I cannot forgive and I couldn't forgive the guy and therefore, I couldn't like him.
If a person causes an accident and as a result someone dies in this accident, it is another story. I wouldn't hold a grudge on the driver if it was just an accident.
However, I cannot forgive a person causing an accident while drunk and killing someone because of his recklessness.
See? There is a difference.
Long story short, I didn't root for his happiness.

5. No romance, no chemistry!
The first kiss, the first sex and the rest of their intimate scenes meant nothing to me because I never felt their chemistry.
Although the book is written in dual point of view, I never got to understand why they found each other appealing or attractive.
I didn't understand when and how they fell for each other and it was because it started abruptly. I was just like this, "Huh, what are they doing? Did I sleep over it and miss something?"
She called him "Sex in a suit" from the very beginning of the book, telling him he was melting her panties. (No, of course, they were not dating when she said that, she was flirting with him while he was trying to get rid of her). So, I assume that she found him attractive but I just didn't feel their connection.
He found her beautiful, sexy but annoying and weird. So I assume he fell for her beauty first, and then, got used to her character and started to like her as a person, too. (Well, at least, this is my best guess.)

6. The tone of the book was annoying!
The tone of the book was too chirpy , which made it awkward for me. It felt as awkward as a laughter in a funeral.
The hero is an unhappy and grumpy man, so regretful of his past mistakes that he thinks he doesn't deserve happiness but the way he tells his story is full of humor. It is aimed to make us laugh.
The heroine was already a "too chirpy person" so the jokes she made all along didn't feel wrong - even though I never ever laughed at her jokes.
I think, as the book has a depressing theme, by adding humor and a light tone, the writer wanted to make it appealing to the reader but it just annoyed me more.
I strongly believe that the light tone of the book was wrong - or let's say not appropriate - or let's soften it and say that it didn't feel right to me.

Please forgive me!
I respect all readers and my dear friends who loved this book dearly. I am sorry it wasn't for me and I tried to explain my reasons as clearly as possible, risking that I might sound like a heartless bitch while doing so :)))
So, please go read this book and give it a chance if you are not obsessed with the issues I just listed above because so many people loved this book.
In this case, it seems that it wasn't the book, but it was me...

When one is privileged to read books that leave an indelible mark, you attempt to prolong the reading of it. These opportunities are rare-once or twice a year finds, books such as or or and now, this book.
is filled with emotional and heartfelt scenes, perfectly balanced with some serious laugh-out-loud moments. In all, Jewel exceeded my expectations.

Funny thing how when one of the most kick-ass authors in the romance genre releases a new book, nothing matters to you anymore. You don't care there’s a dead wife. You don't care that one of the most fantastic heroes ever (Sorry, Flint) loved his dead wife beyond words.
All of a sudden, you stop being picky. All your triggers, pet peeves and things you usually avoid like the plague vanish into thin air.
Why is that?
Maybe it's because you know you can trust her. You know you will finish her little piece of art with a smile on your lips. Stronger and wiser.
Because that’s Jewel E. Ann, my friends. And she is so, so worth the headache.
I don’t think I’ve ever read a book she wrote that didn’t shock me or majorly piss me off. But I never, not even for one second, thought of DNFing it. Whether it’s her talented writing, her lovable and multilayered characters, her unusual and original story lines, her meaningful messages about life, or something else altogether, she NAILS it every freaking time. I just can’t help but devour each and every one of her books inhaling their pages like a woman starved.
While this deceptively light book is fun and entertaining, it’s also a very serious and difficult read.
But it’s unbelievable how she can make tragic events look so normal, so surmountable.
It’s unbelievable how perceptive she is.
It’s unbelievable how optimistic and empowered I feel after I finish her books.
I loved the first part of this amazing book but I thought it wouldn’t be my favorite. I couldn’t relate to the heroine, which is a first for me. Her heroines are always super awesome. Intelligent, quirky, funny, annoyance level: zero.
This heroine has the same qualities. But I couldn’t connect with her in the beginning. Maybe it’s because of the lack of background information on her in the first half. Maybe it’s her cheerfulness. Or her constant humming. Or her pet rats.
I don’t know.
But then the last half happened. And I couldn’t help but fall in love with her.
The hero is a different story. It was love at first word. I fell for him on page one. I wish I could read about them every day.
Not to mention the secondary characters. The awesomest of all the awesome secondary characters I've met in a fictional world.
I’m not sure if it’s obvious, but I loved this book. And I love this author. I love her quirky humor. I love how she perceives the world. I love how she understands life.

Overall Opinion: I really enjoyed this! I tried really hard not to get my expectations too high for this one, because I hate that disappointment I get when I do that sometimes -- But with that cover and blurb it instantly sold me! I have a 13 year old son with Asperger's syndrome/high functioning autism, so this was a joy to read about the perks and struggles of parenting such a child. Don't get me wrong -- every kid on the spectrum is different in their own special way (and the author says this herself in her author's note at the beginning) but it definitely felt like I was sharing a secret smile and laugh with these characters during their interactions with Harrison/Harry. I freaking loved the h too! Not very often I say that too, as I find I am always harder on my hs in my books. I felt like we got some good characterizations, some good depth in their stories, I felt a good connection between them and towards each character individually, and I was completely invested and rooting for their HEA! My only reason for not being a 5 star read was the ending. I was so darn invested that I just wanted more!! I also had a (type A and probably crazy) unanswered question that bugged me a little (see closure section below). Overall, I am very happy with this book!
Re-Read Note: This was an enjoyable re-read. It sucked me in and I didn’t remember everything, so it felt good revisiting it all again. I f-loved the h! She makes the story for me. I just love how she shows her affection and loves unconditionally! Harry was amazing again. Flit, however, wasn’t as good as I remember. His hot and cold routine for the beginning half of the book bugged me this time. I did still appreciate his love for Harrison and I felt bad for his past, but I didn’t always like how he treated the h (and it could be because I liked her so much). The unanswered questions still irked and that along with my issues with Flint has me dropping my rating by a half star — but all in all, a great re-read!
Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Elle and Flint's story. They meet when Elle is applying to rent the office space above Flint's office from him. Once Flint realizes his mistake in letting Elle run her noisy music therapy sessions while he is trying to get work done, he tries to evict her. But through Flint's 12 year old son on the autism spectrum, some guitar lessons, a group of pet rats, her constant touching and adjusting of his clothes, and their strong attraction/connection -- he finds it hard to get rid of her. They end up falling in love, but life throws some road blocks in their way that make it hard for them to get to their HEA (but they eventually do 😜).
POV: This alternated between Elle and Flint's POV.
Overall Pace of Story: Good for the most part (see closure section). I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well.
Instalove:No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings.
H rating: 4.5 stars. Flint. I really liked him! I felt bad for his past, but I also appreciated how he was a good dad and cared for Elle (and after he stopped fighting it, how he didn't have a problem showing the depth of those feelings for her).
h rating: 5 stars. Elle. I loved her! She was quirky, patient, confident, and I loved how she demanded to be treated well!
Sadness level: Low/moderate. I teared up a few times, but no tissues were needed
Push/Pull: Yes
Heat level: Low. They have some pretty good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story. I'd say that most of the scenes are more about the emotional connection than the physical act, so kind of low on the steam factor (it didn't feel like that negatively impacted the story though).
Descriptive sex: Yes
OW/OM drama: Yes, but actually pretty mild
Sex scene with OW or OM: No
Cheating: No
Separation: Yes
Possible Triggers: Yes
Closure: This had okay closure and a pretty good epilogue with what I would call a HEA ending . I am obviously a greedy girl, because I simply wanted more!! I wanted more time with them navigating their new lives together, and more of their HEA! I was a disappointed with the epilogue, as I felt like there was so much awesome material to work with that it left me feeling jipped. I also really wanted to know how they navigated the Sandy issue . The closure and ending is the only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars tbh.
Safety: This one should be either Safe or Safe with exception for most safety gang readers depending on personal preferences.

I'd say that most of the scenes are more about the emotional connection than the physical act, so kind of low on the steam factor (it didn't feel like that negatively impacted the story though).

Closure: This had okay closure and a pretty good epilogue with what I would call a HEA ending . I am obviously a greedy girl, because I simply wanted more!! I was a disappointed with the epilogue, as I felt like there was so much awesome material to work with that it left me feeling jipped. I also really wanted to know how they navigated the Sandy issue . The closure and ending is the only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars tbh.

1/5 ⭐️ The part about this book that I thought I would hate was the dead wife trope and the hero feeling guilty about her death (which he should because it was 100% his fault.) But what bothered me the most was how the heroine was the pursuer in the relationship. It works for me sometimes but it has to be done right. It was not done in a way that I liked in this one. The hero at one point even tells her “you really should make guys work a little harder for it.” He basically called her easy and I didn’t like him at all after that. And I just got so much secondhand embarrassment from her constantly being the one touching him and chasing after him. No thanks.

Just perfect! Especially last parts of the book were amazingly written. I think Jewel Ann is about to be my one of the favorite writers. So happy I have lots of her books to read and have to decide from which I should start. Totally recommended! This is such a marvelous book👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

LOOK THE PART: is a full length standalone contemporary romance novel by Jewel E. Ann. Spoken in ‘Dual Perspectives’
The ‘Prologue’ grabbed my attention straight away, a birthday celebration ended tragically, a man left broken and shattered. A man locked in the past even though ten years have gone by he's still paying for the sins of his past.
In this we meet thirty five year old Flint Hopkins, a hot uptight lawyer with a long suffering assistant Amanda that gets fired on a daily basis, Flint is a single father to twelve year old mildly autistic son Harrison and landlord to Ellen Rodgers.
Thirty two recently divorced Ellen has just not long moved to Minneapolis and is a musical therapist who has just signed a lease with Flint to rent the space above his lawyers office, but the noise drifting downstairs drives Flint batshit crazy.
“She's a music therapist, Flint. Please tell me you assumed music would be involved? Otherwise, I'm embarrassed for you.”

I went into this not really knowing what to expect, but having read one other by this author previously which I loved my expectations were high. Those expectations were met tenfold, this was such a unique, laugh out loud, swoon worthy, all the feels, I want this life book!! There is NOTHING (rats included *Shudders*) that I would've changed about this book. I lost count the amount of times I giggled reading this, such a light hearted feels good to escape to giggles galore land.
I also lost my heart to Harry, god I loved what popped out of his mouth, I really really wish he gets his own story just for shits and giggles.

Their journey to love everlasting is filled with many obstacles and unexpected twists and that’s what made this such an entertaining read.

At first, he seemed to be an uptight suit unable to show compassion but as the story unfolds and all his layers were peeled back, we see that this man has an unbelievably huge heart who would go to any lengths to protect and care for the people he loves.

I can easily say, I think this one will be one of my top reads this year. This book stole my attention from the very start. It pulled my heart in literally all directions and let me tell you, holy emotional overload..... I was high, I was low, I was in love, I hated, I laughed, I cried, I became impatient, I became overwhelmed, and holy hell did I love
I'm not one for writing long reviews, so of course, this one will be short. In saying that, finding the right words to justify this beautiful book is hard for me.
I fell in love with Flint Hopkins and Ellen Rodgers in this story, oh and Harry, Amanda, Jon, Gene, its cast of secondary characters is awesome. This story is a story of finding second chances, its about laughing again, about loving again even when you least expect it or think you don't deserve it. This book, its tragic, its so very complicated. Its definitely filled with its share of obstacles, yet it makes you laugh and cry literally at the same time. Its full of passion, and it is so very addictive. The writing is simply amazing
A beautiful, sweet, laugh out loud, dab your eyes kind of book, one that I highly recommend to you if you like those types ❤️

It took me roughly 10 days to come up with something to write that would do this story justice. Right now, I know there is nothing that I can say that will illustrate the captivating beauty and pain that leaked from these pages. There is nothing that I can type that will give you a glimpse of the feels, the heart-rocking emotions, the utter devastation, and the sublime bliss that I found in this book. But I’m going to try anyway.
We should remember people in their most beautiful moments, but we don’t. It’s the etching of ugly and pain that leaves a lasting impression.
Those lines right there? They were at the beginning of the book and pulled me right in and this story refused to let me go!
Flint, a prominent attorney, rents his upstairs unit to Ellen, a music therapist. Too bad he didn’t know what he was getting into. He really should have done some research on what a music therapist does. The racket upstairs is a huge distraction to him and despite how attached his slightly autistic son, Harrison, has become to his new tenant, he serves her with an eviction. However, Ellen isn’t leaving without a fight.
I want to be his greatest strength - and his greatest weakness. I want to be where he hides his lies and finds his truth.
Flint was stoic, brooding and oh-so-sexy while Ellen was not only a gorgeous woman, but a positive force of energy. It was almost like she kept bouncing off of his forcefield of negativity in order to ultimately penetrate it. And penetrate it she did. While they embarked on their lust-hate relationship (not really that much hating going on though), they both found that they each had walls built up for protection, from pain that was more tragic than words. Neither of them expected the other to be the catalyst for those walls to come tumbling down.

Ellen and Flint’s interactions with Harrison were a highlight as well. I loved how he was different with each of them but they didn’t begrudge the other but rather celebrated the many sides to him. And when they finally admitted to their fall… le sigh… I don’t think there was anything the author could have done to make me love these characters, and I mean all of them, any more. It’s been 10 days and they haven’t left my mind.
I’m going to love you so hard, time won’t matter. Distance won’t matter. All you’ll feel when you take each breath… is my love.
The love in this book was profound. The love between Ellen and Flint, the love of their parents, the love everyone had for Harrison, it was picture perfect. I laughed, I cried, I cheered and I sighed. Again, words cannot properly express how much I loved this story or how incredible it really is, so I strongly recommend you read it to see for yourself.

This book deserves 6 stars!!
I was literally blown away by this novel.
Look the Part was my first book by Jewel E. Ann. But it won’t be my last.
This book was A M A Z I N G!!
Everything about this book was perfection. From the story to the characters. Especially the characters. The author managed to write two fantastic main characters, as well as a supporting cast that blew me away. The dialogues, the teasing, the never ending good-natured back and forth had me chuckling and laughing out loud. Ellen’s snarky and flirty personality, clashed with Flint’s dry humor and sarcastic undertones. It was PERFECT!!!
This author has a way with words. It’s hard to describe, but every dialogue was on point. I devoured every word that came out of Flint, Ellen, Amanda and Harry’s mouth. I actually wanted to scream, where have you been all my life?
Flint’s son Harry was adorable. And I would pay good money to get his story. It was so easy to fall in love with his personality, quirks, and autistic character traits. His no-nonsense answers had me cracking up. And Flint’s reaction to his son’s brusque and matter-of-fact way of speaking was delightful, and made me swoon all over the place.
This novel was a stunning work of art.
It was PERFECTION!!! (I know I’m repeating myself but I just can’t help myself. )
The chemistry, flirting, and sexual tension was delightful and a never ending source of joy. The story was heartbreakingly beautiful. Flint especially made my heart ache. I felt true sorrow and anguish for him and all I wanted to do was hug him and never let go.
I think this novel has been my most favorite of 2018 so far. It was just so perfectly balanced, with all the nuances I love and cherish in a romance novel. Strong and distinctive characters, a fantastic storyline and a supporting cast that was as memorable and as likable as the main characters.
There was NOTHING in this story that didn’t’ speak to me, or I would want to change. I’ll be definitely reading this book again. It was that GOOD!!!
BTW I already downloaded When Life Happened. There is just no way that I’m not checking out the authors other work. And I bought the paperback copy of Look The Part, not only because of the cover, I just needed it on my shelf. I think I was 20% into the book when I hit the buy button. Like I said, this book was the PERFECT book for me.

This was a very solid read.
I feel like a lot of people have already said it all in their reviews and I don’t have anything new to add except to say that I enjoyed it a lot.
The writing is very good. The plot, dialog, interactions.. everything felt very realistic. There was nothing predictable or cliched but quite the opposite.
I also have to mention that I liked the characters and not because they were perfect or acted the way I’d want them to act but because they have a very real vibe to them.
Also, the progression of things felt natural. It was recognised that, what started as lust and mutual attraction, progressed into something more substantial, none of that insta-love stuff.
Another thing I want to mention is how Harrison was portrayed and how his interactions with his father were very realistic. Regardless of his autistic tendencies, we didn’t get any of that “perfect child” bulls**t. He is a moody but ultimately normal teenager and we got to see that you don’t need ten “I love you’s “ per page in order to paint a healthy/normal parent - child relationship.
Now, I’m gonna go and schedule my next book by this author ;)

“Sometimes the world ends and forgets to take you with it.”
My mom's collection sometimes offers unexpected gems and this book was certainly one of them.
Considering she also recently tried to pass me a book called Alien Daddies, I'll consider this novel and the 4,5 stars I gave it, more than a victory.

I stayed up until 4am on a work night to finish this.
I am now one yawn away from transforming into a zombie with great hair and a book buying problem, but every sleepless minute spent in this book's company was absolutely worth it, and I don't regret a thing.
It's been two days now, since I've read this, and I can't stop thinking about it.
I don't know why it gets to me in the way it does, exactly, but I suppose that, technically speaking, it's thanks to a winning combination of stellar writing, fantastic dialogues, rounded characters, and a story that needed to be told.
On an emotional level, though, this book made me feel things I haven't felt for a book in a very long time.
You know that stomach dropping thing your body does, reading certain lines?
That's what I'm talking about.
I'm addicted to that feeling.
And I'm in love with this book.
This was my first time reading anything by this author, and it definitely won't be the last.
Not only JEA created one of the most incredible chemistry between two fictional characters, but she gifted them with the best banter and sweetest love story, as well.
Individually, Flint and Ellen are a interesting as they're well developed. Being in their head was intense and frustratingly beautiful.
The way they interacted with each other gave me butterflies; their flirting was perfect and I didn't think my suit kink would reach higher peaks, but here we are...
At first I wasn't sure Ellen's openly affectionate and direct personality would be a good match to Flint's sarcastic and closed-off nature, but if there ever was a fictional pairin that perfectly embodies the grumpyxsunshine trope, it's them.
I saw a lot of myself in Ellen and loved how she kept pushing Flint past his comfort zone to gain a reaction out of him, and kept digging through the embers of his personality to relive a fire he thought extinguished. It was both funny and consuming to watch him crumble and let go.
100/10 would recommend Sex-in-a-Suit Flint Hopkins.
Plotwise speaking, this was easy to get into and a total page-turner with no dull moments and an emotional rollercoaster behind every page.
Ellen and Flint were amazing, but they're also surrounded by incredibly funny and relatable side characters, too.
If Flint wasn't around, I'd totally dig his dad, no cap.
I adored the way JEA characterized Harrison, Flint's son, who is 12 and a neurodivergent kid, was simply admirable. My mom's older sister was diagnosed with autism, among other things, when she was a child, and I've seen a lot of her in Harrison's character.
This book had my heart sommersaulting from start to finish.
I've never read a love story as precious as this one, and I've never found two main characters in a romance book, whose love and attraction felt as believable as Flint and Ellen's.
I relate to both of them and their struggle, even if I've never experienced some of the things they had. One moment in particular, though, made me feel extremely close to Ellen and seen in many ways than I can count, and I'm referring to her The way JEA handled this part was so realistic and potent it triggered me a little, but it also made me feel less alone.
I can see myself wanting to re-read this book again in the future, and I can't believe it comes from my mom's romance stash, but even a broken clock is right twice a day, so...

There’s a reason why Jewel E. Ann is one of my go to authors cause she never disappoints. I’m pretty sure that I always get a unique and highly emotional story. I was introduced to Flint Hopkins in the book called One and was instantly mesmerized by him. Look The Part can easily be read as a standalone.
Flint Hopkins and Ellen Rodgers carry this book beautifully. They crawled into my heart the moment they appeared in Look The Part. Their interactions and chemistry are incredible. Talk about characters that jump off the pages cause these two do. They’re are so much fun and likable. They both carry the weight of a tragic past and together they find solace in each other. Flint is struggling with his own worth and what he thinks he deserves. His guilt is heartbreaking. He starts his own path to redemption thanks to the extraordinary and spunky Ellen. Her past is also sad but is such a positive person and tries the best she can to move on and her meeting with Flint changes everything. Her bantering with Flint is definitely a highlight of mine. Omg! So much heart and soul in every interaction between them. They both awaken something in one another. The need, want and lust for more in their lives.
The secondary characters are just as important as Flint and Ellen. Flint’s son Harrison, Ellen and Flint’s parents. I loved them so much. They’re so important for the story, for Flint and Ellen’s relationship. Ellen and her father Jon definitely made me tear up and so did Flint and his relationship with his autistic son Harrison. The change not only Ellen and Flint goes through but also Harrison, thanks to Ellen, are extraordinary and flawlessly executed.
Look The Part is another smash from Jewel E. Ann. She can do nothing wrong. Her character development is phenomenal. There’s so much heart and soul in this story and the characters. I’m surprised how hard this story hit me. So beautiful, emotional and fun. Look The Part is another favorite of mine from the talented Jewel E. Ann.

It's nothing new that I think Jewel is an amazing author - and again, she managed to write a book with deep and witty dialogues, round characters and despite the tragic background story - there were also quite a few humorous moments (the banters between them made me laugh out loud). 💛

But ...... I must point out that the love story itself did not knock me off my feet. It was pretty banal and did not innovate anything to me (the "we do not tolerate each other but are attracted to each other - and BOOM, we fell in love!" Pattern 🙄) and at some point I felt the crises were just over dramatic and unfortunately, there were a lot of parts of the story that just... bored me. 🙈

Fuck a duck this book was fucking A-MAZ-ING!!!
Like, for real I had no idea I would LOVE it so much as I’ve not read this author before so I had no idea what to expect.
Well tickle my tits till Thursday I adored it!
Flint, after all his faults, I still wanted to sit on his face and the way that man wore a suit!! Wow!
And Elle was a crazy girl with rat babies! She rocked my socks off!
And then there is my mate, Harrison! Sweet lawd he had me cracking up with his bluntness and complete honesty. Such a dude and so cute - I’m thinking he needs his own book...
All in all a wonderful story that had me laughing out loud, swooning and maybe a few tears were shed.
I had so much fun with all these characters and so happy my book friend recommended it to me...so now I’m recommending it to YOU!

Well, that was a phenomenal surprise. Before I started this I wasn't too sure about Ellen from the blurb. Then I started it and ... I fell in love, totally and utterly. Fell in love with the characters - Ellen, Flint and Harrison as well as the side characters who were fantastic, fell in love with the story, fell in love with the writing, fell in love with the honesty and realness of the characters. There is nothing I can find fault with or didn't like. Not a thing.
What a truly gorgeous read, it was perfect. I laughed, I snorted, I swooned, I FELT and I hugged my kindle so hard at times.
There are some that will hate Flint for what happened. I can't because ... there but by the grace of God. There are some that will say he didn't show any remorse or character growth, I call bullshit. That man was riddled with remorse, deep regret and guilt and his character growth was huge. Was he wrong to do what he did? Abso-bloody-lutely. Does he deserve to be crucified? Abso-bloody-lutely NOT. Should he be vilified for having loved his wife? No, and it's a sad world if people who have loved and lost can't love again.
Loved, loved, LOVED Look the Part so hard. It's by far and away the best non-angsty book I've read in a long long time. Up onto the tippy top of my favourites shelf this baby goes.

When I saw this one on GR it immediately grabbed my attention. Awesome blurb means awesome book right ?? Thankfully in this case it did ;)
Once I started reading "the prologue" there was no stopping until I was finished.
This book starts out with a tragedy, leaving behind a broken broody jerky man....my favorite :P
Flint Hopkins is a single father, and a (stick in his ass) lawyer. I especially loved how he kept firing his assistant (no worries, you will like this part too).
Flint only excists to do his job and take care of his "mildly authistic" 12 year old sonHarrison. Flint is convinced he is paying for the wrong doings of his past and so he is fine with the life he is living.... He doesn't deserve "more".
What he didn't count on though isEllen. Beautiful, sweet, funny, rat loving music therapist Ellen. She is about to rent the space above his office and change his live forever.
When Flint (who is kind of an idiot) finds out, that music therapy actually involves music, he is ready to evict her out of his building.....
"Please tell me you assumed music would be involved? Otherwise, I'm embarrassed for you.”
Problem is though that his son really likes Ellen ad if he is being honest (which he isn't) so does he....
I really liked this story, it had the right amount of drama, angst and fun times. It also had some nice steam..
I do have to say that Flint really made this book for me. Ellen was a great heroine and up until the end I liked her a lot. I started questioning her behavior towards the end though, and thats when she started to annoy me a bit....
Still.....I had lots of fun reading this one, it was just what the doctor ordered ;)

Jewel E. Ann is another NTM author that I lucked out on. I really loved this book and it is the first FM book I have read this year that I have liked. LOL
I was worried that this would be depressing and Flint hanging on to his dead wife's memory would put a dark cloud over most of the story. It didn't. Did he continue to feel guilt, pain, and love for his wife? Yes. Did he let it get in his way of moving on with Ellen? Yes. BUT it was complicated and messy and right for this story. Why? Because this author was perfect at making it feel as realistic as possible. It just wasn't put in there to keep up the angst. Nope. This man was still struggling with his guilt and the author makes you feel it with him because of the way she started the book with the prologue. It put you there when his wife asks for they keys. You read his cocky response as you cringe because your human and know that this moment is going to haunt him. You hear her mention their 2 year old in the back seat. You feel it in your gut cause you hear her words and know the outcome. You know his guilt. You feel it. So when he goes forward only to go further backwards you really can't fault him his feelings. Plus as the story goes and you read about the love he has for his son and the lengths he goes to keep his son healthy and happy he becomes a bit of a hero in my eyes. I really enjoyed the relationship he had with his parents as well, especially his father. He was pretty funny. What I am trying to get out is that I completely loved Flint. I usually am a sucker for the grumpy alpha types and he totally fit the bill as they say.
Ellen was a bit of a mystery for the first part of the book. Still, I liked her. She annoyed the hell outta Flint which was entertaining. She was the light to his dark. The cheerful to his grump. The bright smile to his scowl. The perfect opposite he needed to bring back his laughter and lift the darkness he has been living in since the passing of his wife. But as the story goes we get to know Ellen more and learn about her ex-husband and why touch is so important to her. I loved her relationship with her father. I liked how pro-life she was and I especially loved her relationship she developed with Flints autistic son, Harrison.
I laughed, got teary eyed, got mad, smirked, and all in all really enjoyed this fantastic story of loss and love.
Definitely going to try out some of this authors other books.

Jewel E. Ann is another NTM author that I lucked out on. I really loved this book and it is the first FM book I have read this year that I have liked. LOL
I was worried that this would be depressing and Flint hanging on to his dead wife's memory would put a dark cloud over most of the story. It didn't. Did he continue to feel guilt, pain, and love for his wife? Yes. Did he let it get in his way of moving on with Ellen? Yes. BUT it was complicated and messy and right for this story. Why? Because this author was perfect at making it feel as realistic as possible. It just wasn't put in there to keep up the angst. Nope. This man was still struggling with his guilt and the author makes you feel it with him because of the way she started the book with the prologue. It put you there when his wife asks for they keys. You read his cocky response as you cringe because your human and know that this moment is going to haunt him. You hear her mention their 2 year old in the back seat. You feel it in your gut cause you hear her words and know the outcome. You know his guilt. You feel it. So when he goes forward only to go further backwards you really can't fault him his feelings. Plus as the story goes and you read about the love he has for his son and the lengths he goes to keep his son healthy and happy he becomes a bit of a hero in my eyes. I really enjoyed the relationship he had with his parents as well, especially his father. He was pretty funny. What I am trying to get out is that I completely loved Flint. I usually am a sucker for the grumpy alpha types and he totally fit the bill as they say.
Ellen was a bit of a mystery for the first part of the book. Still, I liked her. She annoyed the hell outta Flint which was entertaining. She was the light to his dark. The cheerful to his grump. The bright smile to his scowl. The perfect opposite he needed to bring back his laughter and lift the darkness he has been living in since the passing of his wife. But as the story goes we get to know Ellen more and learn about her ex-husband and why touch is so important to her. I loved her relationship with her father. I liked how pro-life she was and I especially loved her relationship she developed with Flints autistic son, Harrison.
I laughed, got teary eyed, got mad, smirked, and all in all really enjoyed this fantastic story of loss and love.
Definitely going to try out some of this authors other books.

TW for alcoholism and loss of a loved one.
I have heard nothing but amazing things about Jewel E Ann, so I decided to pick up one of her books!
From the start, Flint is a broken man who is trying his best to raise his son, Harrison, who is on the spectrum. I definitely think that Harrison was my favorite character of the book. He forced Flint and Ellen to talk to each other, and Flint couldn't ignore Ellen just because she made him feel things he didn't want to feel. Their banter and chemistry were so fun and I loved how they started to fall in love.
Usually I don't like a specific trope this book had, but it was actually an important part of the plot and I really didn't mind it. Flint has a lot he is still going through and he is unable to forgive himself for what happened in his past. I also loved how Flint's parents and Ellen's dad were in quite a few scenes and that we had that familial interaction. This book as just packed with emotion and a great romance and I really loved it!

This is my first read by Miss Ann. I am conflicted rewarding this book. The banter is intense and funny. Quick and sassy. I like that.
Now, I do not like the heroine. Ellen was fun and free spirited at first. Then she turned into this monster who like to invade stranger's personal space by touching. Which is weird. Miss Ann does not really explain the reason why Ellen has this habit to touch.
I also do not like Harrison. I know he has some disability but he is a brat. That left me with Flint. He is OK hero. He grieving for his late wife for 10 years. That counts for something.
Overall, I give this book 3 stars. I have to think again to pick up books by Miss Ann.

Sometimes, when you least expect it, a story rocks your world and brings you to your knees.
They are moving, emotional and take me to tears, but I regret nothing.
Look the Part is a refreshing and special story. One of those you don't want to stop reading but life gets in your way and you get so frustrated! I wish I could have started this in another moment, where I could let myself to be consumed by it, savouring it without any stop.
I don't remember being impressed by a kid character to this extent, ever. Jewel E. Ann rocked developing Harrison's character. Hands down, my favourite kid character of all time.
Both MCs were also brilliantly developed.
They will stay with me for a while.

I passed this few months ago after reading the blurb. I had recently read Ann's Transcends duology and that had the main lead with a child. Here too male lead has a child and I thought this would be similar to that one, hence I was not very excited even after reading good reviews. But then my friend Iniya picked up this one for our weekend romance read after I gave her few suggestion, yup I included this in that little list. And just like Transcends books this one also surprised me.
I found it different from the other romance that I usually read. It had some points that irked me a lot but on the whole I liked the story and the characters. I liked the usual banter between Flint and Elle. Flint's relationship with his autistic son was strained initially but it got better as the story progressed as both parties made few sacrifices and come to a point where they both understood each other. Elle's outspoken and in your face persona definitely made me laugh out loud at multiple occasions, but there was a sadness to her that she tried to cover with her cheery self.
This was something that I liked but still feel hesitant to recommend it to others as this has some romance tropes that I guess everyone is not a fan of.

I enjoyed this book It was a quick read. In the beginning, It was kinda enemies to lovers but It changed so fast because of their attraction to each other.
I liked Ellen and Harry’s relationship they are so cute with each other and her relationship with her father is beautiful I liked how they cared so much about each other.
Flint at the beginning is so grumpy but as the story progresses he became such a good character I liked him and what he did with Ellen and her father at the end.
There was some part that is boring in the middle but the story picked up after that a little and I felt their relationship is rushed a little. Overall It was a good read I finished it fast and I enjoyed it.

Forgive, but harder to forget…
I love reading good books, but I really struggle with writing reviews for books that ROCK MY WORLD. How will I do it justice? How do I show my appreciation for fine work without it sounding like an OTT “SQUEE” review? I have all these bubbles of emotions that need to be expressed but I can’t write them all down. My head is exploding trying to put my love for this book in priority order.
Who was my favourite? Elle…yes, Flint…yes, Harrison…yes, Amanda…yes, Ron, Gene or Camilla…yes, yes and yes? Oh, bloody hell, I loved them all the bestest of the best at least once in the book. These characters came to life for me. I saw them, knew them and lived their lives with them, for a little piece of time. I suffered with them through their pain, heartache and sorrow. But, I also got to experience their love, humour and excitement too.
I loved seeing Flint come to life. I adored Elle and her humming ways (but I’m with Flint, I will never love your rat babies). Harrison and his special and quirky approach to life put a smile on my face. Knowing that Amanda, Ron, Gene and Camilla were always there if they needed a helping hand or guidance, gave me the peace of mind that they could survive anything. There really couldn’t be a favourite, because I loved them all.
Which was my favourite scene? The fictitious gifted watch that should have been engraved…maybe. Or, when "Dr Hopkins" arrives to look after the patient…maybe. Those curved stairs (be still my beating heart)…maybe. Amanda and her job being on the line again and again and again…maybe. Harrison’s honest 7 out of 10 explanations…maybe. I can’t pick one because I loved them all.
One of the first lessons I taught my boys was about repercussions. That unwise decision now could have lasting effects. But, at their early age, I always tried to tell them that I forgave them, loved them and it wasn’t the end of the world, they just had to try to not do it again. In Look the Part I found myself questioning whether every unwise decision that leads to repercussions is forgivable? Does a show of guilt and an apology make it OK? Like the characters in this story, I find it not always easy to forgive, especially forgiving myself. It’s almost impossible to forget though.
Look the Part was some heavy stuff. Amazingly, I never felt depressed or morose. There’s this little underlying spark that brought light to the darkest parts. Each main character had their own patches of darkness but they also managed to project lightness. This is a story about wanting this life and moving heaven and earth to get it. You can live your life for someone else's happiness or you can live a life looking for your own happiness too.
I love a story that makes me feel and I felt a lot. I love a story that takes me on a journey to happiness, and I was ecstatic by the end. I love a story that makes me question my thoughts, decisions, judgements and actions and I will try in the future to think, before judging.

Raw and beautiful. Look The Part is a story that evoked a million emotions in me as I was reading it. The characters and the story felt so real and relatable. I have no doubt that anyone who reads this book will fall irrevocably in love with Harrison, Ellen and Flint.
Flint Hopkins was living inside his own personal hell until a new tenant, Ellen Rodgers rented the space above his office, and starts to to turn his world upside down one musical note at a time.
Ellen is a music therapist that always smiles, and gives it to you straight no matter what. She too has a lot of emotional baggage but she copes with her painful past, in the opposite way Flint does.
In the equation of Flint plus Ellen, the result equals a powerful explosion. They fight hard and they do other things even harder.
Harrison, Flint’s autistic son is a beautiful and amazing character that sort of symbolizes a truce between Flint and Ellen. And then the three of them eventually form a sweet bond that ultimately will save them from all the heartache of the past.
A beautiful story from beginning to end. I really loved everything about it. Don’t hesitate, read it today.
