A month after losing Maxwell, Betty “Boo” Boorman is feeling lonely, isolated, and desperate to get away from reminders of her demon ex-boyfriend. When rival ghost hunter Carter Lansford approaches Betty with a wild story about zombies, Betty jumps at the chance to investigate. An abandoned island resort off the coast of Georgia is infested with the walking dead, and a preservation team has asked Betty and Carter for help. The only thing worse than spending two weeks on an uninhabited island with Carter is having the whole thing filmed for a new reality show. As Betty tries to put on a brave face for the camera, she faces stubborn ghosts, rotting corpses, and one very handsome historian.
Beth Dolgner writes paranormal fiction and non-fiction. Her interest in things that go bump in the night really took off on a trip to Savannah, Georgia, so it's fitting that the Betty Boo, Ghost Hunter Series of paranormal romance novels takes place in that spooky city. Beth's young adult novels, the steampunk Manifest and the urban fantasy A Talent for Death, also have paranormal elements. Her non-fiction work includes Georgia Spirits and Specters and Everyday Voodoo.
Since Georgia is obviously on her mind, you might think Beth lives there. Well, she did, but these days she and her husband live in Berlin, Germany, with their three cats. Beth misses those mild Georgia winters and proper iced tea, but there's no reason her characters can't enjoy those things.
Beth also enjoys giving presentations on Victorian death and mourning traditions as well as Victorian Spiritualism. She has been a volunteer at an historic cemetery, a ghost tour guide and a paranormal investigator. Right now she's chronicling the best spooky spots around Europe.
Ok, kids. Did you like Ghost of a Threat and Ghost of a Whisper? If so, you will LOVE Ghost of a Memory!
With the 3rd installment of the Betty Boo series, author Beth Dolgner has invited us to follow Betty on a post-breakup trip. In an attempt to clear her head of the Maxwell induced cobwebs, she agrees to go on this adventure with Carter. I know, right?? Carter??? He’s so……well, not Maxwell! But that is sort of the point. After Ghost of a Whisper and the part he played in helping with the Maxwell rescue, I even have to admit that I developed a bit of a soft spot for Carter. I would like to think that his normally vapid personality is just a front to seem all untouchable or whatever. Deep down, he’s definitely got a good guy buried in there. Once in a great while, he lets said good guy peek out and make an appearance. Ghost of a Memory gives you a spattering of these moments. Carter is a character that, much like a weird fungus, is starting to really grown on me. Does this mean I am starting to have visions of him and Betty picking out wedding invitations??? Not so much. I just think that he’s making a turnaround. Carter is actually proving to be a good friend to Betty and I’m thinking that as days go forward, Betty is going to need those types of people surrounding her.
Speaking of friends…
Ghost of a Memory opens up with some new concerning some of Betty’s friends. I won’t say what it is because that would ruin it but you find out on page one. Literally.
As with the rest of this series, Ghost of a Memory is a very well-woven mystery. The reader is given clues here and there to keep interest solidly held but at the same time, it isn’t predictable. I thought I had everything all figured out about half way through and to my credit, I had a few of the details right. However, only a few. I was FLOORED when I reached the big reveal. I did NOT see that ending coming…at all! The twist in the mystery is a damn good one and I’d be surprised to find out that ANYONE figures it out prior to the big reveal. And that is the way a mystery should be written. Who wants to read a predictable mystery?? Not I.
Also, the synopsis mentions a “cute historian”. He’s smart. He’s ruggedly handsome (although, he’s got nothin’ on Maxwell). And he’s got the hots for Betty. Could he be the new love of her life???? You’re going to have to read Ghost of a Memory to find out!!
Overall, I am giving Ghost of a Memory 5 stars. I genuinely feel that this is a terrific series and I can’t wait for #4 to come out. Until then, I have to watch Betty Boo and the Savannah Spirits Seekers drift into the land of Literary Limbo (click here to find out what that means).
Also, if you have never seen it, I encourage you to read the guest post that Beth Dolgner wrote for Pure Textuality. It’s called ‘Write What You Know, Paranormal Style’.
Betty is not happy, it’s been a month since Maxwell broke up with her and she’s miserable, thinking she sees him all the time. To get her mind off of her life without him, she agrees to go looking into zombies on a deserted island with Carter. The island has an old estate that is set to be renovated for the historical committee but several zombies have been found. It’s also going to be a pilot for a new reality tv show that Carter wants to start. The zombies are actually ghosts inhabiting their dead bodies and with some ghost investigation, Betty and Carter start sending them on their way. Betty is also attracted to one of the historians, who is making moves on her, but she’s not ready. But other things are happening, and Betty seems to be in danger. This is an interesting mystery, what’s happening, why and who. There isn’t a lot of action but there are great characters, an interesting story, surprises, suspense and humour. Again, it’s a quick, easy enjoyable read. Looking forward to the last book.
I said this after book two, but WOW. That was a wild ride from start to finish. It was also a super cool take on zombies, both their characteristics and makeup. While I had suspicions on things, I never quite knew what was going on until we got right to it... this was really well done on all fronts. The storyline felt flawless, and the characters were unique, well-rounded, and very "real" feeling. There was some laughter, and heck a lot of mystery, drama, and intrigue with a tiny bit of romance thrown in for good measure.
I loved book one and book two. I was expecting something similar for book three, but I could never have guessed the storyline from the outset. It was fantastic. I think it might be my favourite of the three, so far, you know, if I had to choose one. Otherwise, it's just an awesome series and I can't wait to start reading the next book!

Betty and Carter go off to an island for what's supposed to be a two week holiday and all about Zombies, although Betty doesn't believe in Zombies. As it turns out, the Zombies are actually a thing and there is a lot for her to cope with, along with missing Maxwell. Her fellow ghost hunters have pretty much bowed out of things, so she accepts Carters invitation and then she spends a lot of time thinking one thing is happening when actually it's about something else entirely. Maxwell does show up and poor Betty goes through the wars. It's a great story and I enjoyed it very much.
I was entertained by the third book in the "Betty Boo, Ghost Hunter" series. Betty agreed to go with Carter to investigate zombies, and she finds things are more complicated than she expected. I enjoyed the twists and turns that occurred in this fast-paced thrilling adventure. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Lisa Bozek's narration was great and added to the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.
If you have read the previous books in this series then you know that Carter & Betty are verging on friendship while teaming up for ghost hunting. They also find trouble, a lot. Now they have mystery and danger that they have to not only figure out but also fight against together. Very good writing, hope you enjoy.
A nice twist to the zombie lore, loved to see Carter and Betty working as a team. I didn't like Maxwell's and Betty's break up, but love prevailed at the end. Ready for the ending on the next installment.
I'm loving this series and I think book 3 is my favourite.. not read book 4 yet so this could change.
I really enjoyed the different aspect in this novel, the story focusing on both Betty and Carter. I really do like him after all! The zombies were an interesting take and I really enjoyed the way the storyline went. I really did not expect the twist it took and I was reading this with eager anticipation. Was Betty gonna get out of this unscathed!!
I love Beth Dolgner's writing style, it's breezy and easy to follow. The way she rights gets your attention straight away and it holds throughout the story. All the storyline lines and characters feel believable and you can feel yourself immersing into that world.
I really enjoy Beth Dolgner's Paranormal reads and will definitely be reading book 4.
This is a series that blends together with ease. Ghost of a Memory has a superb twist and keeps you connected to the previous 2 books. I can't wait when the final book is released.
