An anonymous hookup is a great way for Jericho to exorcise his demons... And the woman in his sights might be an angel in disguise... An angel with a sinful body and a dirty mind. Arriving at his new job, Jericho never expects to find the woman there. He should steer clear, but he can't get Cassie out of his head. Even if he's the worst man for her. Jericho is far from perfect, but Cassie doesn't need perfection. She needs honesty. Even though Jericho discloses a big secret, there's more that he's hiding. If Cassie's gambler father taught her nothing else, at least he taught her how to spot the lies. When they're thrown together to help catch a killer, they could lose more than themselves. They could lose their lives. But life is a gamble. Can Jericho make peace with his past and be the man Cassie needs, or will his demons win?
Vicki Tharp makes her home on small acreage in south Texas with her husband and an embarrassing number of pets. When she isn’t writing or you can usually find her on the back of her horse—avoiding anything that remotely resembles housework—smelling of fly spray, and horse sweat.
I’m really enjoying this series, this is only book 2 but both books have been great romantic suspense reads so far. Jericho and Cassie were fun characters to read, their journey to HEA was Hot! They had challenges to overcome but together they burned up the pages. The story had just the right amount of suspense to keep me turning the pages. Good read!
This story has danger, twist, turns and suspence keeps you turning the page to read what happens next until the very last page, looking forward to reading more books from this author
This is the second book in the series and Jehrico and Cassie's story. The first book was good and this one is even better. I can't wait to read book three.
This book held my captivated attention until the very last word. The storyline is gritty, filled with raw emotion, closely held secrets, a steamy affair and a healthy dose of searing suspense. It centres around an investigation into a murder that is more personal to one of the investigators than it should be. The victim was a woman that Jericho was trying to help escape her abusive ex, using an illegal skill. He never expected his first assignment for Steele-Wolfe Securities would entail investigating the murder that had sent him reeling the moment he learned of it. It also reunited him with Cassie, the gorgeous woman who soothed his turmoil of emotions the night before. Both Jericho and Cassie had felt the strong attraction and spark of connection the night before, but hadn’t decided whether or not to try to find each other. Fate made that decision for them. When Cassie takes a job with the firm too, everyone becomes aware of the chemistry between them. As the investigation heats up, so does the relationship between Jericho and Cassie. But both the investigation and their relationship hit some roadblocks and speed bumps. Jericho has some secrets that he is forced to share with Cassie and the team…secrets that could get him arrested, jeopardize the investigation and send Cassie fleeing in the other direction. Will there be a happily ever after or a nasty breakup and heartbreak?
I love a flawed Hero, and Jericho is definitely that. He is essentially a good man who does his very best to help others out of terrible situations. He has his own demons and inner pain that he tries his damnedest to tamp down and control. He uses some illegal skills to help his clients, but never for personal gain. Despite his tortured childhood, his heart is still open to love. As he gets to know Cassie, he realizes he has given his heart to her, but she may not want it when she discovers the truth about his past. Cassie is a sassy, take-no-prisoners kind of gal who has learned the hard way that she can only count on herself. She goes after what she wants and she doesn’t take orders or direction well. She has her own demons and pain she strives to control. She can recognize the emotions Jericho is trying to hide and feels their connection deeply. Cassie is also aware that Jericho is keeping secrets, which is why she won’t acknowledge her live for him. Secrets don’t stay hidden forever, and sometimes love isn’t enough.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it. I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
