3.5 WITCHY STARS!

Here comes the worst cover of a book I have read in 2014,or maybe one of the worst covers I have ever seen in a book.Seriously the girl in the cover destroys the beauty of the background which is actually pretty interesting, and the font doesn't match with the rest.I am mentioning this to let the readers know that don't judge this book by it's cover,it is way better!

description

Whisper of a Witch is the first book in "The Savannah Coven" series. It is a witchy fantasy filled with hidden truths and romance and some really cool characters.I personally hate witches, they are my least favorite paranormal creatures,so I am not going to base this review on my dislikes because if I have hone that, this book would have had a lower rate.I will try to discuss the quality of the writing style and the plot and the characters in general.

description

The characters are the real beauty of this novel. They are perfectly described and they fit amazingly with the plot.We get to know a lot of characters in the beginning, which is pretty confusing because there is a lot of information to process, but with every turned page you will learn more and more,so I must give credit to the author for this smart way of introduction.

description

The plot is also unique in it's way.I would describe this book as an description for the series, because I didn't see much action, but it was a good start.I did not like the instalove romance.

description

The story follows a girl named Shauni Miller who's a biologist, and also can communicate with animals. She is also a witch and she is a part of this coven of witches. They are against some demons. In the other hand she meets a boy,Michael Black who she finds very interesting but they both know that they are hiding something from each other. What will happen if they find out the secret, and will that be the end for them and for the others?

description

I recommend this book to every fantasy reader out there. It's a fun read especially in this season. So pick it up!

Whisper of a Witch is the face paced stunning Savannah coven series by Suza Kates that is written with delicate humour and the intensity I have not encountered until now.

I was completely blown away by the secrets of the characters, the many different and entirely captivating characters in this book are in my opinion what makes the books storyline come to life through every turn of the page. At times while reading I found myself breathlessly turning the pages wanting and intrigued beyond imagination to know and learn more of the intensity and fast paced book that is well written and constructed by Suza Kates.
I felt an instant pull towards Shauni in her quest to find strength and courage during her journey through the book, and her impeccable pull towards Michael whom she wants to get to know that much more, this leads to a great storyline that is both imaginative and creative and the added concepts of romance to blossom and speak out.

The many characters we meet each have their own individual strength and unique voices that speak out throughout the chapters, a delicate piece of creating characters by an author, that I feel is sometimes over looked in other stories where the plot is the main concept.
The plot of this story however, is one I cannot wait to read more on, it has depth, pace and humour not to mention the romantic storyline.
If you’re looking for a book that will capture you and make you fall into the pages and the storyline of a book then look no further, this series speaks for itself within the first few pages with the wonderfully written characters and storyline. I cannot wait, and I sit here waiting, holding my breath for the future releases by Suza Kates who has the creative writing skills to become a truly worldwide recognised author.

This book has a lot of characters which are all basically introduced in the first few pages of the book which made it difficult to keep all of the straight until at least halfway through. The characters are somewhat interesting although there's a lot of typecasting and for some reason everyone is gorgeous. There quite a few cliches sprinkled all over the place for the way magic works and feels at times a hodgepodge of a lot of different myths. Also, there are random descriptions that felt like they were put in there because the author felt like it was something cool to say or had always wanted to put something like that in a book.

As a romance novel this is great. The plot is much better than most. As a fantasy novel this is rather ho-hum.

Disclaimer: I won this from First Reads.

Cute series:). Bought it because of 'other buyers purchased books by these authors' feature on Amazon. Reference author was Deborah Geary (love those witchy books of hers!) This series (Savannah Coven witches) of characters doesn't pull me in quite the same way as those Witch Central characters of Geary's, but they're a pleasant diversion. for a few hours :-). Quick, but immersing read.

I won this book in a first-reads giveaway, and I'm really glad that I did otherwise I wouldn't have known about how fantastic it was!

The book begins with a prologue that introduces a whole bunch of women all seemingly heading to the same place. It was a bit confusing to be bombarded with all this information first thing, but it's only a quick introduction, so it's not that bad really. Anyway, after that the story begins properly. We meet Shauni, who has the ability of communicating with animals. This made for some great scenes with her pet cat, Cuileann, who I thought was great! He had such a no-nonsense attitude, just like you'd imagine a cat to be really.
Shauni's ability to communicate with animals means that she inevitably ends up meeting the town vet, Michael Black. A man who's sweet, sexy and loves animals (he might be my ideal man lol). I liked the relationship between Shauni and Michael, although it did seem to happen a bit quickly.

As for the action part of the story, well there's the coven of witches, including Shauni, who are the good guys, and they're up against some demons. There are, of course, some obligatory fight scenes, and it's all very exciting, if a little predictable. The author builds up this thing about Shauni having to face a test of her powers at the end, but when it came it was a bit of an anti-climax.

Overall I really enjoyed the book and I loved the characters. I'm looking forward to reading more books in the series. My only real complaint is that the author seems to have a habit of describing everyone's hair, which got on my nerves after a while.

Whisper of a Witch is the first novel in the new Savannah Coven series by Suza Kates. I won Whisper of a Witch from goodreads and am so glad that I did!
Shauni Miller has a secret that she has shared with very few people. She feels a pull towards Savannah Georgia where she meets Dr. Michael Black, a vet in Savannah. Also in Savannah are others waiting to meet Shauni and get to know her, they too have their own secrets. Working with these people will test Shauni in ways that she never imagined not to mention the thrill of getting to know Michael as more than just a vet. Shauni has to work on developing strength and courage as well as learn to trust others with her secret if she and those she cares for are to survive.
Filled with a mix of characters than are both good and evil, Whisper of a Witch is a fast paced and at times humorous read. I was immediately pulled into the characters world and have found myself yearning for more. I very much look forward to reading the future books in this series and getting to know some of the other characters better, especially Kylie, Paige & Willyn.

*squee* I may have just found a new favorite series! Whisper Of A Witch is the first book in the Savannah Coven Series. (I gather that there will be 8 more...Happy Dance!)

This first book really hooked me as it introduced me to the coven and Shauni. (She's the main character in Book 1.) I love how Suza made each of these characters so different and interesting. She really opened up the way for a great series!

I simply adored this book and personally found it to be different and refreshing. If your a paranormal fan and looking for something new then maybe this is one for you to try! (and Suza...I expect you to fill me in on the next book...*grin*)

Shauni has a special talent. She can communcate with animals. When she finds herself irresistabley drawn to an island near Savannah, she discovers that she is not the only one with hidden talents. On the island she joins eight other women who are destined to fight an evil that has been dormant for years. She also finds another irresistable source in the form of a delectable guy with secrets of his own.

This is a really fun novel. It is sort of an old fashioned witch story real magic. I enjoyed the setting, the characters, the magic and the cats. I am looking forward to the next in the series.

As the tag line in my blog header notes, “I don't just read a book; I "crawl" right into one. I read, I devour, and I consume every last word until the story is running like a movie through my brain!” and with Whisper of a Witch , Suza Kates will have many a reader devouring every last page! Her use of setting is extraordinary to the point where readers will actually feel like they are there; that they are seeing Savannah through the characters eyes!

For some, being able to picture the setting of a story is of the utmost importance and to have insufficient narrative description can be quite disappointing; even to the point of disastrous to the overall reading adventure. However, Suza Kates has an obvious mastery that will entice readers to close their eyes and enjoy the scenery!

In the first installment of The Savannah Coven Series, we meet Shauni; a very wholesome, down to earth biologist whose family has reared her to be passionate about her work, but also extremely compassionate to the earth and it’s inhabitants, both human and animal kind alike. Even the very thought of violence is foreign to her and she leads her life with a gentle hand and but also has one very personal secret which she fears could, should she choose to reveal it, change her life dramatically.

Upon surrendering to the unknown force urging her to travel to Savannah, Shauni has stumbled upon a sisterhood, of sorts. As it turns out, Shauni is a witch, destined for greatness and to share in the fight to save human kind from extinction. However, Shauni’s discoveries, both about her true self, and that of the sisterhood (coven), bring her much confliction. That which she has been is asked to do, while most definitely for the greater good, goes against her every belief; it goes against the true grain of her very “self”. Ms. Kates takes the reader on this characters emotional roller coaster with a finesse such that the reader can almost “feel” Shauni’s turmoil. We are lead through the process of Shauni’s curiosity, confusion, fear, and finally, acceptance on such a logical line that Shuani’s satisfaction almost becomes our own!

Suza Kates takes the reader on an adventure that’s sure to please not only on the “visual” level, but both the emotional and intellectual levels, as well. Included within these pages, readers will find snippets of Georgian History, local Folk Lore and even a good dose of Wicca (Neo-Paganism) and Witchcraft. With an obvious talent for character and plot development, Susa Kates tells a story that will keep many readers wanting more.

With the perfect blend of suspense, romance, danger, and intrigue, Whisper of a Witch is an awesome start to what promises to be a spectacular series!

Romance. Prophecy. Sisterhood.

Darkness has returned. Amidst the haunting and rich southern background of Savannah, Suza Kates introduces us to nine women drawn together by a three hundred-year-old prophecy.

Shauni Miller, a biologist with a distinct gift, is mysteriously summoned to an island off the coast of Savannah. Here, she meets Dr. Michael Black and eight other women with gifts of their own, as they discover their true paths and accept their destinies. Only together can they fulfill the prophecy.

As a huge fan of paranormal romance and mysteries, Whisper of a Witch did not disappoint. Kates’ characters are refreshingly fun-spirited and likeable. Being from a big family of girls, I relate to the everyday banter, fierce loyalty and unconditional love these sister witches have for one another. Kates makes you want to be a part of their circle.

Paranormal aspect aside, I found myself enjoying the romance blossoming between Shauni and Michael. Shauni is a strong, intelligent and independent woman, as are her sister witches. While it’s obvious she is more than capable on her own, her relationship with Michael allows her to be an even stronger woman.

Whisper of a Witch is the first of nine in The Savannah Coven series. I look forward to following each of the sister witches and their magical trials, and you will too!

The book starts out with a lot of characters and you learn a little about each one in the beginning with the focus being on Shauni. As the book goes along you learn more and more about each character, but you know that this is Shauni's story. I liked the friendship that she shares with her coven, the love story that develops with Michael and how the secrets unfold with each character. With so many women in the coven and the different personalities of each, there are so many ways to go with the story that I look forward to reading the next book in the series!!

I completely fell in love with the main character, Shauni Miller and all of the other characters. This is one of those stories that made me ready to move straight to the next in the series. I loved the relationship between Shauni and her coven members. I also became completely infatuated with the love affair between Shauni and Michael.

Imagine you are one of eight women who felt a call to travel to Savannah, GA and when you arrive you discover you are a witch…a witch who will work to prevent a demon from being called into the world. Shauni Miller is a biologist; she is the non-violent, peace loving, vegetarian daughter of hippies who has the ability to communicate with animals. Shauni is the first of the witches to meet the challenge set before the group. She meets veterinarian Michael Black and finds him extremely attractive but past experience has taught her sharing her ability to communication with animals only leads to heartache so she is reluctant to tell Michael not only about her ability but that she is a witch. Michael has a secret of his own and he fears Shauni will be appalled when he tells her about it. How Shauni meets her witchy challenge and tells Michael the truth about herself made a great book. The book is the first of The Savannah Covent series and I am looking forward to reading the others in the series.

When I first began reading the book I was a little confused with all the characters that were introduced, but as I continued to read, they were sorted out fairly well - though here and there still had to rethink about who was who. I liked that the main focus of the book eventually revolved around only one of the witches, Shauni. I enjoyed reading about her relization of being a witch, facing what she was up against (evil) and working through it. I am really looking forward to reading the next books in the series.

This was the book that started me on my love for Suza Kates and her Savannah Coven series. Shauni is the first witch to undergo her trial. She also meets Michael. Her books are full of adventure, love and the male love interest in this book is as strong as the main character, which I love.

This is my second win from First Reads.

Whisper of a Witch is a pretty refreshing read from the kind of paranormal romance books I usually pick up. Rather than starting off with a bunch of hunks swaggering about flexing their muscles and killing things (which I do like, by the way), Suza begins by introducing a group of females.

Reading about nine women coming together and forming a coven was enjoyable and some parts were quite humorous. I was glad they didn't spend too much time chanting spells or performing rituals as I would have found that rather annoying. However, I do think they all adjusted a little too well to finding out they were witches and adapted too easily to putting their normal lives on hold and living in a house with people who were virtually strangers.

I also thought Shauni and Michael's relationship was a bit too rushed and I would have preferred to have them know each other longer before she told him everything and they fell in love. But I really enjoyed reading about the few times they went on dates because the settings were well described and the interaction between Shauni and Michael were quite sweet.

The start was a little overwhelming because there were so many characters coming together, it took some time for me to get my head around who was who, and who had what powers. But as the story progressed I got to know and like the characters more, so this shouldn't be a problem with the rest of the series.

All in all, it was an enjoyable read and I would recommend it to those who like paranormal romance with strong female leads.

And a big thanks to Suza for this generous giveaway and for taking the time to sign the book too!

I was expecting more from this book, what I was not expecting was fashion, furniture, lovely buildings and a sappy romance. Oh and don't forget to get a many pedi because all witches need one just so they feel good. The story was very short on any real story line which was so disappointing as there was a great deal that could have been put in here to make it interesting. Witches are such fascinating creatures and there are so many directions you can take with building their characters why stick with the pathetic romance angle.

Admittedly, as I write this review, I’ve already read all of them. I read them quickly. I loved them. Obviously, this being the first in the series, there was a great deal of set up to be done, and I think it was well done. At the beginning of the book, you are introduced to each witch (and their seemingly matching cats) being drawn away from their normal lives by an unknown source that they know they need to follow. Although just saying this, it may seem far fetched, but they’ve all always known they are different than others, so they know at the very least this is why, if not a chance to finally get answers. I instantly loved each of the women and their individual personalities. It seemed impossible at first for such seemingly different people to get along so well, but it worked. Once they all got to the island and found out why they were there, they knew it was time to get down to business.

This first book mainly focuses on Shauni and what role she plays, and the hot doc, Michael Black, she meets in the process. Meeting this guy would make facing anything a whole lot easier, in my opinion! There is an instant attraction, and you can definitely feel it as a reader as well. While Shauni faces possibly the biggest challenge of her life, Dr. Black and her new friends are right there with her. I loved the growing relationships, and the passion you feel between Shauni and Michael. The book ended wrapping up most of Shauni’s story, but leaves you excited about what is to come for all of them and the enormous challenges they all must face. 5 out of 5 stars!

NOT SO BRILLIANT-DULL STORY AND TERRIBLE NARRATION!

Really?!? not sure how anyone thought this narration was brilliant. The reading voice was nice. But that is it. There are 9 witches in the coven, the main character Shauni can speak to animals and they can speak back, there is our hero, Dr. Black.
NOT ONE CHARACTER HAS A DIFFERENT VOICE FROM THE NARRATOR'S READING VOICE.

I am not kidding. A very disappointing listen. I was a bit shocked too, most narrators try and give characters voice distinctions, not this one. not one little bit.

As for the story, it was just okay, seemed a bit juvenile to me, if you took out the 2 sex scenes this could be YA book. There was not enough dialogue for me. The story line and plot had potential but just fell flat and boring.

I had to stop listening at 8% and just read this book due to the very poor narration. Sorry, Hollie Jackson, but you should either give your characters a voice or don't narrate.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS LISTEN. I don't really even recommend the story to be honest. There are so many books out there that are so much better. Save your credit for something worth listening to.

bought this book blindly as it was recommended at the end of another book I finished. It turned out to be an entertaining find!

The premise is pretty unique. It starts with 8 women being drawn to Savannah and finding out shocking news about themselves. The stories core is about a coven of 9 witches, but each book centers on a different witch from the coven. The formula for the story itself is pretty standard for paranormal romance, but the characters and the overall story plot will keep it entertaining.

I toughly enjoyed my read but only gave it 4 out of 5 due to its length. I am a fast reader and was able to finish this book in an afternoon!

I started this book because I have been on a witch/supernatural kick lately and wanted to find a book in that vein with a little different twist, (and more books in the series in case I liked it). Turns out that I did like it- I liked Shauni as a character and liked the idealism of the story, even if the plot didn't have very many twists.

ha. having great fun with this Savannah Series. Really bummed I have to wait for 2 more books. NOT the most educated, well written books ever. nah. But super fun if you are able to suspend reality and play with the authors visions. Very fast, kinda chic-ish witchy love stories. Great for a simple rainy day zoom zoom.
