Joe D M-H World building is much more common in genre fiction (esp. sci-fi and fantasy) but it's essentially planning out the specific facets of the world in which your characters live beforehand, histories of prominent local figures, businesses, what's in what town and where, local geography, government, social structure, culture, mapping, that kind of thing. Probably more useful for worlds unlike our own, but not uncommon in literary fiction. Thanks for answering my question!

Jim McGrath I'm really glad to hear that you are writing a follow up to Nobody's Fool. It's a shame that Paul Newman won't be able to reprise his role as Sully.

Thanks for the advice about trying to see and hear everything you'd see and if it was really happening and you were actually there.
