Honestly, the similarities are there, but the humour is far, very far from it. Probably as far as Ankh-Morpork is from mr Gently's agency. Though I tried to appreciate this book without comparing it to Pratchett's, it was still not my cup of tea. Adam's own ingredients for comedy, mystery and nonsense in this book resulted in what seems like a bland meal in a posh French restaurant. It had fancy and special ingredients, but the taste was lacking and I've left the table with my dish unfinished.
Aside from it not being a funny book, the story was just too weird, even for me. I love nonsense settings such as Pratchett's flat pizza world and Carroll's Wonderland, but Adam's world - although it resembles our world more closely - I just couldn't relate to it. Or to any of the characters in the book. So I got bored with the book and gave up a bit more than halfway....more
