What I found somewhat annoying was the personification/anthropomorphising of Dopamine, e.g. "Dopamine does everything in its power to avoid such incorrect forecasts".
It has a bibliography after each chapter if you want to dig deeper on the subjects, but this also indicates to me that the book is more or less a summary of them.

Sarte had suffered from extropia from childhood as the result of influenza, and perhaps a cautionary tale for what might happen as the result of COVID-19 infections. He writes frequently about "Entoptic Lights", which are probably visual artifacts that he experienced almost as a form of synesthesia, which can inform imagination and creativity....more

Rainy days for polymaths are typically beautiful days.
Polymaths are at the ready to apply and use metaphors. Most people can't (or won't) make remote connections, but polymaths naturally do because they have given themselves permission to make them. One of the core courses for being an artist would be polymathy.
Polymaths see things other people don't so they are very practical in that sense. It's not because it's genius or talent; it's just because they haven't put boundaries on things that are knowable or usable in a particular setting.

I don鈥檛 know what happened with this one. I did like the chapter on polychromy and made the book useful. He goes into synesthesia, but that鈥檚 already well-covered.
Essentially, what he seems to be saying is that all perception is a matter of "habit"--a "System 1" response, to our detriment. In any case, who really knows what he鈥檚 getting at? What is the benefit (for our fitness) if we can鈥檛 apply it to knowing whether we need to do anything about climate change, for example? Or can we?
The complexity of this surely can be simplified from other perspectives, and consequently be more useful. ...more
