See, I was so close to giving up on 2022 YA releases, considering I have rotten luck with most of them. But wow, does this book restore back my hope. I'm willing to look aside some of the flaws of this book and the execution, because I'm smiling like a fucking idiot by the end of the book. Plus Henry Li exists, he's now on my list of favorite fictional men. I do wish this is dual pov, with the second one being Henry's.

UPDATE: it's been 13 hours and they're still stuck in my brain like a leech, and i actually cried thinking about them again and watching their edits. and thinking about the mystery again makes me light up. hence why I'm solidifying my rating to 5 stars because sophie deserves that.

reading the trilogy in a week was... a choice! this is hands down the best book in the series. kevin and andrew are the highlight, especially with their development, but neil my BABY BOY oh i love him so much. this book is fully a roller coaster ride. it wrecked me and shattered me and then put me back together again at the end. the foxes deserved that ending so, so much and i'm so proud of their journey and how they end it together. is this going to the list of one of my fav series of all time? hell YES. will i recommend it to everyone? absolutely NOT!...more

2nd read Nothing could make me giddier and happier than seeing these 2 emotionally confused teenagers not realizing, for the longest time, that they actually belong together while chasing other people. But hey, they're my idiots. (do you think sophie gonzales would take me kindly if i start appearing out of nowhere asking for a college novella?)
1st read A few hours ago, I fully contemplated giving this a 4.5, but after smiling like an idiot until now and the giddiness I felt when I finished it, the only logical thing is to give this 5 stars, at least until I change my mind again. I love how this book tackles biphobia and bisexual erasure, plus the characters are all flawed and they make mistakes, which is understandable for teenagers. Ultimately, they all get what they deserve and learn from it instead of brushing it off, and I like that. Brougham and Darcy are so adorable, especially Brougham. He's such a sweetheart and I LOVE his Australian accent so much. This book is now officially one of my comfort reads....more

Liv is reading a contemporary romance and she loved it! Yes, I read this because basically everyone managed to peer pressure me into reading it, and not going to lie, I was scared that it wouldn't live up to the expectations in my head. But now I finished it and my head still goes "januarygus januarygus januarygus" every 5 minutes and then I find myself smiling like an idiot. Truly no thoughts, just me being a januarygus lover and how much I ache for their past, individually, and how they find comfort in each other and trying to be in peace with their past. Their love is so pure that it made me tear up. TEAR UP! over something that's not even sad, but the wholesomeness gets me.
If you're asking, yes I'm going to check out Emily Henry's other books one day, and yes, this book has become one of my favorites of the year. Wow, can't believe I'm saying that but it's true....more

Their stories are incredibly heartbreaking and I love how each character is fleshed out and has their own struggles, I also love seeing each character from another's pov. This was definitely not an easy read, it's very heavy to go through, but I think it's an important one. Especially if you're a Muslim or an immigrant or both, you might find yourself relating to some parts, which I really wish that you don't have to. I'm also in awe of how Sabaa Tahir portrayed rage in this book, how much it does consume someone inside out, and the outcome of it. All in all, this is definitely one of my favorite YA contemporaries, even if I don't read them as much....more
Easily my favorite book of the year, or at least my favorite of the first half, I think. I won't go into detail now (maybe I'll talk about everything Easily my favorite book of the year, or at least my favorite of the first half, I think. I won't go into detail now (maybe I'll talk about everything later), but this book has the perfect blend for an ideal fantasy book. The characters are all fascinating to follow, and I love how each has its own flaws, even though some are much more noticeable than others. They all feel so fresh and different and have their own voices, plus the way they contribute to the story is so great to witness. This book is indeed more of a build-up towards a more significant conflict and plot, but I think despite being slow, it doesn't read like a slow-moving book. The characters carried the book in such a way that you feel you need to propel yourself to keep reading, and that is so much better than if a book is fast-paced but didn't have much substance in it.
I also will praise Rebecca Roanhorse's world-building in this book, because it was done masterfully. They didn't overdo or info-dump too much, and it was sprinkled well throughout the book as the characters go on their way. Truly, I love reading about different cultures and this book with the inspiration coming from Pre-Columbian America was such a refreshing one to read about.
And my god that ending... it sets the sequel perfectly towards more action, character exploration, and even more world-building that I can't wait to read. I want to see Xiala's role next, seeing how she left off didn't give me a single clue on how her story will continue. I love Serapio so much, and Naranpa was ehh, she clearly needed to learn much more but I understand her flaws. ...more
