At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over working in teams. It is to introverts—Rosa Parks, Chopin, Dr. Seuss, Steve Wozniak—that we owe many of the great contributions to society.

In Quiet, Susan Cain argues that we dramatically undervalue introverts and shows how much we lose in doing so. She charts the rise of the Extrovert Ideal throughout the twentieth century and explores how deeply it has come to permeate our culture. She also introduces us to successful introverts—from a witty, high-octane public speaker who recharges in solitude after his talks, to a record-breaking salesman who quietly taps into the power of questions. Passionately argued, superbly researched, and filled with indelible stories of real people, Quiet has the power to permanently change how we see introverts and, equally important, how they see themselves.

<![CDATA[Love Does: Discover a Secretly Incredible Life in an Ordinary World]]> 13497505 New York Times Bestseller!

As a college student he spent 16 days in the Pacific Ocean with five guys and a crate of canned meat. As a father he took his kids on a world tour to eat ice cream with heads of state. He made friends in Uganda, and they liked him so much he became the Ugandan consul. He pursued his wife for three years before she agreed to date him. His grades weren't good enough to get into law school, so he sat on a bench outside the Dean's office for seven days until they finally let him enroll.

Bob Goff has become something of a legend, and his friends consider him the world's best-kept secret. Those same friends have long insisted he write a book. What follows are paradigm shifts, musings, and stories from one of the world's most delightfully engaging and winsome people. What fuels his impact? Love. But it's not the kind of love that stops at thoughts and feelings. Bob's love takes action. Bob believes Love Does.

When Love Does, life gets interesting. Each day turns into a hilarious, whimsical, meaningful chance that makes faith simple and real. Each chapter is a story that forms a book, a life. And this is one life you don't want to miss.

Light and fun, unique and profound, the lessons drawn from Bob's life and attitude just might inspire you to be secretly incredible, too.]]>

<![CDATA[Until Tuesday: A Wounded Warrior and the Golden Retriever Who Saved Him]]> 10393675 A heartwarming dog story like no other: Tuesday, a lovable golden retriever, changes a former soldier's life forever.

A highly decorated captain in the U.S. Army, Luis Montalván never backed down from a challenge during his two tours of duty in Iraq. After returning home from combat, however, his physical wounds and crippling post-traumatic stress disorder began to take their toll. He wondered if he would ever recover.

Then Luis met Tuesday, a sensitive golden retriever trained to assist the disabled. Tuesday had lived among prisoners and at a home for troubled boys, and he found it difficult to trust in or connect with a human being--until Luis.

Until Tuesday is the story of how two wounded warriors, who had given so much and suffered the consequences, found salvation in each other. It is a story about war and peace, injury and recovery, psychological wounds and spiritual restoration. But more than that, it is a story about the love between a man and dog, and how, together, they healed each other's souls.]]>

I read 'Until Tuesday' in June. It was a remarkable story! I was so overwhelmed with emotion after reading this book that I was not capable of expressing the appropriate words to write a review. The tragedies and triumphs for Luis and Tuesday revealed in the pages of this book truly struck a cord into my soul. This story is about war and relationship. The ugliness of one and the beauty of the other. I was heartbroken to the point of tears at my ignorance about war when Luis describes it's graphic realities. But, I was also uplifted with joy as he expressed the unconditional love and healing that this golden retriever service dog brought to his life. 'Until Tuesday' is emotional, raw, real and hopeful. Page by page you'll be drawn in to the story of how Luis the courageous, wounded soldier and Tuesday his strong, loyal companion found love and hope traveling through life side by side while helping each other to be brave!

Marley quickly grew into an uncontrollable ninety-seven-pound steamroller of a Labrador retriever. Expelled from obedience school, even the tranquillisers prescribed by the vet couldn't stop him.

Yet through the chaos and the hilarity, he won hearts and remained a steadfast model of devotion to his family, even when they were at their wits' end. Unconditional love, they would learn, comes in many forms.]]>

Great read not just for children but adults as well. Short and sweet; so very sweet. Beautiful photos of Luis and his trained service dog Tuesday. Informative in a gentle way about Luis's struggle with PTSD and TBI. I must confess, Luis story and his relationship with Tuesday made me cry. Kudos to photographer Dan Dion for capturing those daily moments between Luis and Tuesday that will pull at your heartstrings! The note from Luis on the last two pages was interesting as he described the training of service dogs and how important they are to the healing process and every day living of disabled individuals. Luis also provided websites for the readers who want to find out more about service dogs and wounded warriors. Truly enjoyed this book, you will too!

“Just pick a goal and stick to it―no big complicated secret.”
