Kasia LOL, what got to you in February?! It's such a short month...

message 5: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (cddimmitt) What do you think of "The Cat Who..." series? I've tried it a few times and have never been able to finish a book.

message 6: by Barbara 鈽 (new)

Barbara 鈽 | 3880 comments I read one of "The Cat Who.." series and hated it. Too short and not enough details. The cat twitches and meows - not exactly helping solve the mystery. There are much better mystery novels out there. I can recommend a few if you're interested.

Annvelwis | 671 comments Hello, Did you reread "New Moon" immediately after reading it in January? Or is it mistake?

I suffer from Endometriosis and it was particularly bad in February so I had alot of reading in bed time ! March is a slower month as my workload at work has doubled this month.

They are ok as light reading. I only read them really as they filled spaces in various reading challenges. As I am british but live in France I have to buy books, so I've been trying to read things I already have and these belonged to my mother in law ! I have tried reading books in French but I just dont get the same satisfaction from them and my local library doesn't have any books in English at all except for a French/English Dictionary hehe

I read these two purely to fill categories in various reading challenges as I didn't want to buy books. I have many good mystery books though. I can't say I hated the Cat who books, they were ok for light reading though.

I love mysteries ... especially the "cozy" mysteries. I just wasn't a fan of this series. I tried listening to them. Maybe it would be better if I actually picked up the book and read it... ? I figure that there are so many other series out there that I want to try, so I shouldn't keep trying to force myself to like this one.

Absolutely Barbara you should always read books that you feel you want to and if you try something and it just isn't right for you then leave it alone I say ! I have tried a few series of books which after the 1st 1 or 2 have just driven me mad and I have stopped reading the series.

喈 Katya (Book Queen)喈 (katyabookqueen) You're reading several of the same books I am.... Postcards from Europe Harlequin series. :)

message 43: by Jane(Janelba) (new)

Jane(Janelba) (janelba) | 769 comments Yep I happened to visit a friend yesterday and she asked if I needed any books to read and of course I said sure. So she let me loose on her bookshelves and lent me a whole stack of things lol The postcards from Europe were a great find so that I could take part in the Armchair Traveller's Unite Challenge lol

喈 Katya (Book Queen)喈 (katyabookqueen) That's what I'm doing with them too. I've slowly been looking for them over the years. I have 11 of them but discovered on GRs that there are about 4 or 5 I'm still missing. Just old enough to make them harder to find especially since I'm only looking at thrift shops and the library's annual used book sale.

I'm sure you'd like to raid my bookshelves too. lol

message 45: by Jane(Janelba) (new)

Jane(Janelba) (janelba) | 769 comments yep absolutely lol
If you discover the titles for the whole series I would be interested in having it so that I can go and search my friends shelves again lol or maybe look at amazon markeplace !

喈 Katya (Book Queen)喈 (katyabookqueen) OKay, Harlequin Postcards from Europe series as I've managed to piece it together. Might be more. lol

I have:

Tower of Shadows by Sara Craven #1708 (France)
No Promise of Love by Lilian Peake #1700 (Switzerland)
Viking Magic by Angela Wells #1691 (Denmark)
Touch of Aphrodite by Joanna Mansell #1684 (Cyprus)
Sudden Fire by Elizabeth Oldfield #1676 (Portugal)
Yesterday's Affair by Sally Wentworth #1668 (United Kingdom)

Designed to Annoy by Elizabeth Oldfield #1636 (Germany)
Mask of Deception by Sara Wood #1628 (Italy)

Passport to Paris by Penn Mullin
Secrets of the Matternhorn by Penn Mullin

Jane(Janelba) (janelba) | 769 comments Thanks Kate I'll go looking through my friends bookcases. Apparantly she received alot of these from her grandmother and mother !

喈 Katya (Book Queen)喈 (katyabookqueen) They have very distinctive covers and spines with the blue swirl of a postmark over the white books. Some are royal blue, some are a soft powder blue but it makes them stick out, along with the tiny flag on the spine and cover for whatever country they are. If you see the stripes and flags, you've found a Postcards from Europe book. I finally had to start making a list as I'd end up with duplicates.

message 49: by Jane(Janelba) (new)

Jane(Janelba) (janelba) | 769 comments The ones I have from my friend are all different coloured books and the flags are on the front lol !
Must be different editions?

message 50: by 喈 Katya (Book Queen)喈 (last edited Jun 11, 2009 09:57PM) (new)

喈 Katya (Book Queen)喈 (katyabookqueen) Must be. Either that or different covers were issued to be sold overseas. Since it's Postcards from Europe, mine have a big circle on the front with the words curved around the edges and a photo of the couple from the book in the middle with a flag in a postage stamp off to the side. The circle is the half the postmark with the wavy lines moving off from it, over the spine and onto most of the back cover (wavy lines in shades of blue). So mine are white books with a really huge postmark on the cover with a flag stamp. Peek at the front of the covers of some below. Like I said, the blue wavy lines on white on the spine make them stand out. I had about 5 duplicates or more I finally sold as I'd grab one if I saw it not knowing if I had it or not before I finally made a list. Click on any book below to bring it up, then click on the book cover again and you'll get a good closeup of one of the covers.

Sudden Fire (Postcards From Europe) (Harlequin Presents, No 1676) by Elizabeth Oldfield Viking Magic (Postcards From Europe) (Harlequin Presents No 1691) by Angela Wells No Promise Of Love (Postcards From Europe) (Harlequin Presents, No 1700) by Lilian Peake Alpha Man (Postcards From Europe) (Harlequin Presents No, 11619) by Thorpe Mask Of Deception (Postcards From Europe) (Harlequin Presents, No 1628) by Sara Wood Dark Sunlight (Postcards From Europe) (Harlequin Presents, No 1644) by Patricia Wilson The Bruges Engagement (Postcards From Europe) (Harlequin Presents, No 1650) by Madeleine Ker
