Kaitlyn Santos I am not very far into the book, so dialogue is very important to learning about the characters. We can learn about the characters by focusing on what they say and how they say it. One piece of text that I found important to learning about the characters is, "okay. Maybe we can even...' she looks around with exaggerated caution, then focuses back on him. 'sneak a kiss in your basement'" (42) I will continue on this later.

Continuing on what I was saying before, we can learn a lot about characters through what they say. In the quote above, we can learn about Trina. We can see that she is very sarcastic and likes to joke around. Mark, actually hopes that Trina is saying the truth. We can also learn about Trina by looking at how she says the sentence. Dashner writes that Trina "looks around with exaggerated caution." This lets us know that Trina is joking around. Also, we can make inferences based on this. We can infer that she was dropping the hint to Mark that she wasn't actually serious. From that, readers can ask themselves why she would do this. We can then infer that Trina is aware that Mark likes her, and that she doesn´t want to hurt his feelings. We can also guess that Trina might like Mark back. By saying this line, she might have been testing to see Marks reaction. Therefore, trying to reassure herself that he still likes her.

Kaitlyn Santos Dialogue is very important to learning about characters. When reading, I found a piece of dialogue that lets us know about "the toad". On page 70 when dashner writes, "shes my best friend. I'm not leaving her." we can learn a lot about the Toad. First, we find out that he is a loyal friend. Even though his best friend has a highly contagious and deadly disease, he stays with her and comforts her. Also, we learn that the Toad is selfless. He knew that he was going to catch the disease, go crazy, and die if he stayed with his best friend Misty, but he stays any way. He does this to try to help his friend and help her relax and become comfortable in her last few hours. In addition, we learn that the Toad is a caring person.

Kaitlyn Santos I found a quote that is important for learning about Alec, "which is contrary to the overall person of the hardened man he seems to be. Mark would've guessed the man could be caged with a dozen hungry lions and he'd still only have a smirk on his face as he decided which one to kill first." (101) Here we can see that Alec is fearless and very brave. Also, when the author talks about how Alec beat up 3 men in less than a minute, we also see how fearless he is. In addition, he is also a kind person. He risked his life to save two kids (Trina and Mark) from possibly being killed. And, we can see that Alec is smart. He knew that he would have to act fast and he was prepared to take on the three men. He had to be smart about what he did in order to take all three of them down. Another quote that shows his bravery is when Alec chases after the Berg. He could've stayed behind in the village, but he decides to go after the Berg, even though it was a very dangerous move. It was very dangerous because the people inside of the Berg had arrows that contained a killer disease.

Another piece of evidence that proves Alec is a caring person is when he allows a little girl, who has a contagious disease and was abandoned, to come along with them. And, he provides safety and food to her.

holland I agree, James Dashner left a bunch of great clues (is that the right word?) to each of their personalities. Oh, and just to let you know, your brain is going to explode when you finish. Trust me.
