Yes, mid-Sept is fine for October reads but have in mind that a lot of members use libraries to get their monthly reads and it is sometimes not easy to get just published books there - both because there is a gap before libs get new releases and initial queues

No, moreover it is preferable to get 'older' books, published earlier this year. Also, bear in mind that one of the initial reasons why this group was started was to get ready for the next year's SFF award nomination period, thus popular books of popular authors, like Connie Willis's The Road to Roswell, published this year are probably the best choice. Of course less famous authors/works are fine as well

I nominate Red Team Blues by Cory Doctorow, even if current SFF fandom is less fond of him than it was in 2000-2010 decade when he got several Hugo and Nebula nominations

I know - I'm one of them (and still waiting to get Translation State. But I guess people can decide that when they vote, and stuff can always be renominated later if it still looks like a good prospect and wasn't successful.

Ah, thanks! I'm still getting used to the groups. As an author I try not to listen more than speak. :-)

Ah, thanks, that makes sense. I somehow thought it was just a list of new books (and my next SF book will probably be out then, about two software tools becoming sentient). But I see that's not relevant. :-)
