Char :) | 100 comments My best friend and I go to different schools, and she wants me to go to her prom with her in a couple of weeks. The problem is that while the tickets aren't that expensive, they add up when combined with the cost of a dress, hair, nails, etc., and I really don't have the money for that. Additionally, I'm not much of a party person, and I don't see myself enjoying prom at all. Especially since we'll also be with her friends (whom I don't know), so I feel like I'd just feel super uncomfortable the entire time. Anyways, if I did go, I'd be on a pretty short time crunch to buy a dress and everything, but I feel bad not going, and everyone else keeps telling me that I should go because they regretted not going to their prom. So, what should I do, guys??

lilly 鈾 (busy) | 1305 comments i feel like you should go. for me id rather be uncomfortable then regret not going

鉁╯补惫颈.谤别补诲蝉.产辞辞办蝉鉁 (savannahk1008) | 75 comments its totally okay that prom isn't your thing. it sounds like you likely won't have that much fun, especially hanging out with people you don't know who may not even try to include you, so imo you shouldn't feel bad saying no, especially if your friend knows how you feel about parties. also, may i ask if money is a major deciding factor? what i mean is if you were able to pay for everything, comfortably, would you be more willing to go? i would advise first considering what your decision is mainly based on: cost to go or enjoyment. if it's money, there are plenty of ways to budget prom and still look amazing; but if you're deciding based on your personal enjoyment, i would advise not going, and your friend should understand your decision. i hope this helps!

ella | 2470 comments my senior prom was at a museum and it was pretty cool. I got my dress for free at this boutique, I've never gotten my nails done I just painted them. I say go if you want. also don't feel like you have to spend a lot of money on hair nails etc. also my school's prom tickets were so expensive

Eralith | 81 comments Ah, that's a tough spot to be in 馃槙 Honestly, I think it's about what you want. If you don鈥檛 see yourself having a good time and the money is tight, don鈥檛 feel pressured to go just because everyone says you鈥檒l regret it. Prom isn鈥檛 for everyone, and it鈥檚 okay to skip it if you鈥檙e not feeling it. Maybe you can still make it up to your bestie by doing something else special together, like a fun hangout or movie night? But if you do decide to go, just make sure you're comfortable with the decision. No regrets, either way!

ella | 2470 comments but yeah go if you want because honestly if I didn't go I feel like I wouldn't have missed out much because I honestly just walked around like all the floors like by myself which is fine cuz I don't mind being by myself but it's not the end of the world if you don't go for sure.

message 8: by barbara 鈽 (new)

barbara 鈽 | 90 comments if you truly feel like you'd be uncomfortable, then it's okay to skip out! i didn't go to my own prom for similar reasons. that was last april, and i don't regret my decision at all (even though my mom said i would). your experience won't be the same as everyone else's. you could always hang out with your friend another day and have it be special, still.

but i also agree with what savi said above. if cost is your main worry, i'm sure you can still have a nice prom without spending a lot of money. in the end, it's your decision. trust your gut!

Elsie | 663 comments I think you should go! It's only a thing that you can experience when you're young, and it'll add some quality dun time with your bestie! Although all the buying does add up, it'll make for a great night and day if you're going shopping with your mom or friends!

It's honestly a combination of money and personal enjoyment. If money weren't a factor, I would be way more inclined to go, but I'm still iffy about the decision because it is only about three weeks away, and I don't know if I'd really enjoy it. The problem is that money is a big decision, lol. I'm just not sure if it's worth it to use money on something I'm not certain I'd enjoy

Yeah, I personally don't mind being myself either, lol. I just don't want to potentially waste the money

Brooke (brookeee123) | 43 comments As a now adult that went to her prom鈥t was nothing memorable or fun 馃し馃徎鈥嶁檧锔 I don鈥檛 think it is something you will fear you missed out on.

Rae | 238 comments Okay, I鈥檝e never been to prom, but I did go to homeschool dances.
Considering you are worried about the money, I would look into a few things.
1. Makeup. You don鈥檛 need to be caked up with tons of makeup to both look and feel pretty. Plus, if you want some you can totally use drugstore makeup. You can also use makeup you already have too. I know that a good drugstore makeup look can cost as little as $20.
2. Shoes. You don鈥檛 need fancy shoes AT ALL. you can totally rock whatever. I鈥檝e worn heels, cowboy boots, and sneakers. All of these were already in my closet. And I had the most fun when I wore the sneakers. They were so comfy and honestly everyone loved them.
3. Jewelry. You might already have a few staples, but check with your mom, aunt, or grandma to see if they have any you can borrow.
4. Dress. There are so many organizations that hand out dresses. I personally own three dresses that I all got for free. Also, you can check with your friends and family to see if they have any that they wouldn鈥檛 mind you borrowing for the night. I鈥檓 sure you could find one!
5. Hair. You can totally do your hair at home. Just curling it would be so cute and easy.
6. Your personal enjoyment. I鈥檓 sure there are so many pros and cons. And let鈥檚 all be honest, nobody but you can decide if you want to go. Honestly, I would make a pros and cons list and figure out if it鈥檚 something you want to do.

Katlyn | 16 comments I have been to one school dance in my entire high school life. I personally would not go to prom but only because I get anxious in crowded spaces. BUT if you want to go to prom it might be really fun so go for it. Also if you do go have a blast for the ones who can't go.

Olivia | 9 comments You should go. It鈥檚 a one time opportunity and you don鈥檛 want to miss it just because you wanna stay in your comfort zone. There is beauty outside of your comfort zone and the sooner you make friends with awkwardness and the unknown the more you鈥檒l thrive (that came from the Holy Spirit because I KNOW that didn鈥檛 come from me鈥 wow)

肠测诲猸愶笍 | 34 comments i know this was 21 days ago and i have no idea when prom usually happens.. but as a homeschool girl i get intense fomo and sadness when i see stuff about prom.. ill never get to have that..so imo i urge you to go, but girl!! if you don鈥檛 want to that鈥檚 ok too!!! ur friend will understand! do what you think you want to do babe~

Shianna Sanders -- Jesus is my savior (shianna4-12-25) | 77 comments My senior prom was awesome I got prom queen and I still have my tiara somewhere. I went by myself that year now my junior year I took a friend of mine she has went every year of high school

message 23: by Jordan (new)

Jordan | 19 comments i never went toh prom because I didn't have anyone to go with plus my bestfriend was going with her bf at that time. and I didn't wanna be w third wheel. AND dances wernt my thing either, plus I didn't feel comfortable in dresses as I do now. so I def would've been uncomfortable the whole time. its really up to u. just weigh the pros and cons of yes and no.

骋补产谤颈别濒濒补喹ㄠ鈦核*锝モ姽 | 42 comments I relate to that so much as an online school girl. It's sad to think about all the events you miss out on. Just go and have fun, enjoy your time.

猸恮ish猸悀school hiatus~ | 38 comments Look, if going to your best friend's prom gets a bit expensive then you can always just wear a less expensive dress that you already have in your wardrobe and do your own makeup. And then you can spend more on your school's prom, because you're mainly just going to your best friend's prom to have fun.
