A Discussion Over the Intellectual Importance of Cinema
Wow, Baxter. Wow.
Give an example of what you think is a good film, then. I'm curious.

Paris, je t'aime was a pretty great film. A collection of I believe 18 five minute shorts from different directors the world over and starring a cast of some huge names. It's been copied a few times lately, most notably that terrible Valentine's Day movie.
But where that fails, Paris succeeds: Accurately portraying love. Normal love, gay love, love for pets, love for family, love for the dead, the pains of love, the magic of love, the loss love brings. Over the course of the film, every single facet imaginable is covered. And none of them feel forced or fake. Some obviously stood out from others (the Mime piece was AMAZINGLY great) and some were very vague, but they still packed a punch.
And one of them had Natalie Portman, so how could it fail?

Hey, I like pretentious threads. Besides, this whole freaking group is pretentious. *rolls eyes*

I'm a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings films, directed by Peter Jackson. They don't always do a good job of following the books, but... gah. I've had a crush on Aragorn since age 7 I believe.
Ahh I forget what the last movie I watched was. Hmm. Usually my friends and I watch movies on Fridays, but this week we just watched Mad Men. *gets theme song stuck in head* doo-doo doo-doo doo-doo doo-doo doo-doo doo-doo doo-doo doo-doo doooooooooooooo

I've always loved Eomer too. Heck, I like most of the characters.

I've read The Hobbit, but not the other books. I'm focusing on reading Les Mis this summer. I need to see the movie for that, too.
I saw the movie Les Mis, but have not read the book. I need to do that. My dad made me read the LotR books before I was allowed to see the movies, and because I was an awesome nine-year-old at the time I complained, shrugged, then finished them all in quite a short time. I need to reread them, since it has been almost 8 years now.
I, too, only read The Hobbit. Or, actually, my dad read it to me. XD I haven't read Les Mis but my mom always tells me how amazing it is. I'm just reluctant cuz it's like two thousand pages long. :P

Trust me, I think you'd like it. I was skimming through some parts this morning and I think it's very well done. I don't think anyone but Victor Hugo could get away with being so descriptive, though. I kid you not when he describes Fantine's appearance for an entire page.

I don't doubt that it's amazing, I'm just saying I don't have enough time to read it at the moment. But I will someday :D
I'm reading it over the summer when I'll have plenty of time. My mom's theory is that it won't last me more than a week... I'm like, "Mom, it's 1300 pages in practically size-10 font."

Everything is Illuminated, I loooooved!"
Oh man, I REALLY want to see The Darjeeling. I saw The Royal Tenenbaumbs not too long ago and have decided that I need to track down all of Wes Anderson's movies.

Amelie... amazing!!! Well, anything with Audrey Tautou is brilliant, I guess... but Amelie was just soooo good.
Baxter, have you seen Micmacs? It was on at one of my local cinemas, but I couldn't go. It's directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, who did Amelie.

WATCH THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T FOOLS!
Ilana, I'd definitely recommend "Paris, je t'aime" to you. My mom and sister, who both adored the nuts out of Amelie ended up thinking it was pretty flippin' sweet, so it's not just me who think it is an awesome movie.
It's on Netflix Instant too!

Well, Breakfast at Tiffany's is a classic, because you know, Audrey Hepburn and all. Ummm... I love Mamma Mia! even though it's all corny and cheesy and stuff. Also, I'm a sucker for the Disney/Pixar movies like Mulan and Toy Story and Beauty and the Beast (my personal favorite) even though they're for small kidlets.
I love Mulan and Beauty & the Beast too. Toy Story and anything else Pixar … all awesome also.
Pretentious ol' me.
I won't lie, Mamma Mia! was like, the funnest movie ever to watch. I was in stitches. Oh, and

OMFG GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE!! BEST FREAKING MOVIE EVER. Really … I was obsessed with that one. :D

Mamma Mia was a hilarious movie, Brigid. :P
I NEED TO SEE THAT MOVIE AGAIN BECAUSE I HAVE NO IDEA WHY IT DESERVES SO MANY CAPS.

It was hilarious for like five minutes and then it was like "… Okay. Make this stop."
Haha me too … haven't watched it in forever.

YES. YESSSS! IT'S SO FREAKING GOOD. IT GAVE ME NIGHTMARES BECAUSE THAT RAT WAS SO EVIL AND CREEPY BUT I DIDN'T CARE. IT KICKS BUTT.
In other news, I am super-duper excited for Gaspar Noe's new movie "Enter the Void". I never had the guts to watch his first film, but this one sounds brilliant. 163 minutes of a depressing story, camera experimentation, and tripped out visuals. I CAN'T WAIT.

That rat was really scary. I was more afraid of that one-legged bat dude, though. He was FREAKY. He kept like popping out of things randomly and screaming "BLAHHHH HAHAHAHA!!!" Always used to give me a heart attack …Â
But I'm sure you guys aren't like that. FILM ATTACK!
