Okay, so as most of you know... I'm writing some books. I'm trying to come up with a title for one of the books and the name for the series.
The book is a YA paranormal series about Witches. It's very dark, and centers around a girl who is torn between two covens (one good & one bad), two loves, and two destinies. She struggles with her past, even as she struggles with the overwhelming power embraces when she comes of age.
I'm leaning towards the title "Caged within Darkness", and the title for the series "Meadow Falls"... Any suggestions? Ideas?

stormhawk | 1184 comments That's a toughie ... titles are such a personal thing, and then of course, publishers muck about with that as well.

Short, punchy titles seem to be the current rage. Can you get it down to one word? And, if you're intending a series, do you have a way of linking the titles? Example, is your next book going to contain either the word "Caged" or "Darkness" as well ... You don't want to title yourself into a corner, right?

Hmmm... Maybe title the book "Caged within Darkness" and call the series "Caged"?

Janet | 45 comments Oops! Sorry, I didn't see that you were already published before I wrote this. Looks like we were on the same wavelength. Maybe you should move this thread to dead discussions?

One-word titles and two-word titles with one word repeating throughout the series are both popular. But don't feel too stuck, because plenty of popular series have distinct titles for each book.

I'd strongly suggest to avoid the word "within" in the title - only content words should be long in a title. "Caged in Darkness" would be better. Personally I would be cautious of using "caged" for the whole series title unless it has special significance in your story, because it suggests being stuck in a situation rather than struggle, and stuck is not where you want to be throughout the whole series, right? If cage is a significant word, how about "Dark Cage"?

I assume Meadow Falls is the place where the story is set. How about "Shadow Falls"?
