message 1: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments In order to cut down on the number of nominations, I'm trying some suggestions from last month's nominations thread. Here are the rules:

Books need to be full length novels, standalone or first in series, available in a variety of formats.

Authors cannot nominate their own books.

Genre is fantasy.

Check past group reads to avoid duplication:
http://www.goodreads.com/group/booksh...

Nominations will be closed after 12 books are nominated and seconded.

Thanks. Have at it.

message 2: by Laurel (new)

Laurel I just finished The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making and firmly believe it will become a classic. It is the fantastical quest of a little girl through Fairyland, but with all the whimsy of C. S. Lewis' writing style and the darker touches of a Grimm's Fairy Tale. I highly recommend it to one and all!

message 3: by Courtney (new)

Courtney Schafer (courtneyschafer) | 10 comments I'll second the nomination of The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making - I've heard great things about it and have been wanting to read it.

Becca (beccabeccabooklover) Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell please! :)

message 37: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments Here, There Be Dragons and Blood Red Road are both Young Adult. Since we just had Leviathan, which is definitely Young Adult and maybe 'Young Readers' which is also the genre for Here There Be Dragons, I reiterate: Do we want another young adult book so soon???

message 38: by Dorsi (new)

Dorsi (kismet1228) Yes, on either of these books or both. I own both but have yet to read them. If I have to choose between the two, my choice is Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell.

I second The Black Prism - Brent Weeks is an amazing author!

message 41: by Cat (new)

Cat (thiscatreads) What about the new ASOIAF (finally!) - A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin? I think it's fair to assume that at least a quarter of this group will be reading it in the coming month anyway.

message 43: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Madison The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers

I would love to read Little, Big but I don't think it qualifies as "available in a variety of formats" seeing as it almost entirely out of print.

Have you all not read the thread? This book is a Picture book for Young Readers! I don't think it qualifies!
