My first Ruth Ware book and I particularly loved how it transported me to an almost Agatha Christie world!

Harriet, aka Hal, was a character worth rooting for! A girl, lonely, struggling to meet ends, with no safety net to fall back on, but also, smart, courageous with an iron core, tip-toeing between grey and white, but relatable at most times.

The beginning didn't feel particularly thrilling but the gloomy, eerie atmosphere with a constant sense of something going wrong at any turn was done so well. The events unfold at their own natural pace, only to tie up so well at the end!

The mystery aspect, however wasn't too tough to guess. You know, just by one line, that it's him!

4 stars, for Hal, her mother(s), the magpies, the tarot cards and the gothic vibes! ]]>
