IVE WAITED MY ENTIRE LIFE FOR THIS
Why did they change Count Olaf? I liked Jim Carrey better then this guy. And also Sunny looked cuter in the first movie. No offense. Also Klaus... I liked it better when he did not wear glasses even if the book says he did, i think it suits him better. And Violets okay, thought i liked Emily (The actress of A Series Of Unfortunate Events, before this one.)

I have to say I disagree. Count Olaf looks better, sunny is so cute and I love her and her siblings, Also love the hook-handed man. Plain Perfect.
I am commenting in 2020 in response to remarks made years earlier, but my comments remain relevant.
A TV production is more carefully budgeted (that means they must keep their costs down) than a movie. Thus Count Olaf is played by an experienced TV actor. He was probably cheaper to hire than a big ticket movie star like Jim Carrey and he was probably more available for a TV schedule.
As for those fantastic children from the movie, they have long since grown up. The movie came out in 2004. Emily Browning, the actress who played Violet, is now 31 years old. The twins who played Sunny in the movie (Kara and Shelby Hoffman) are now around 18 years old.
As much as I agree that the movie original cast would have made the Netflix series better, it wasn't reasonably possible.

Dear Viewer,
We regretfully present you with the official trailer, a word which here means a collection of the unhappy happenings surrounding the lives of the three Baudelaire orphans and one despicable Count Olaf.
For the sake of your mental well-being and overall enjoyment of your internet browsing experience, we recommend you search "cats playing instruments" immediately and spend the next 2 1/2 minutes watching a tabby in a t-shirt attempt to play a keyboard instead.
With all due respect,
