Dave Higgins I haven't. I read an account of his life many years ago and I've read several books that put him as a character in his own creation that do include events from his actual life.

It's on the list of books I'd like to read, but so are a great many others so potentially it will be a while until it makes it to the top of my buy list.
Dave Higgins Unconscious gestalt.

Which is a posh way of saying that my mind gathers up little snippets and images as I read the news, watch programs, go shopping, &c., the mostly forgets about them for ages until my unconscious throws up an idea that mixes a few of them into a concept for a story.
Dave Higgins After I accepted the truth of reincarnation, dying seemed a small price to pay to kill the bastard who raped my wife. Until I discovered killers always come back as the last person they killed.
Dave Higgins One of my great grandfathers was a member of the gentry but married beneath his station; so his family disowned him. Being an honourable chap, he changed his name, moved to another part of the country, and never mentioned what his previous name had been.

Depending on which genre one chooses, there's potential for a literary piece about the protagonist's search for his ancestors and the impact of it on them, a thriller about the severance actually being due to some other reason, or a more urban fantasy/science-fiction/horror piece based around finding the last survivor of a lineage with a specific trait (or exterminating them).

Most days, the freedom to work when and how you like is a greater benefit than not having the safety net of external requirements; but, some days it would be pleasant to have someone else validate the need to ponder instead of actually bash out words.
Dave Higgins Drop the word 'aspiring'. It hides all the parts of writing you are great at already behind a label of having not met a particular, potentially abstract, target.
Instead, embrace the joy of being a writer because you write, and focus on the smaller parts of the entire cycle.
Be a writer who hasn't been published yet.
Be a writer who hasn't made the best seller list yet.
Be a writer who is experimenting with a style, genre, or market just for fun.
Dave Higgins I prefer to have two writing projects going at the same time. Then, if I really am struggling with something, I can put it aside and move to the other project.
Usually the active break of working on something else lets my unconscious resolve the issue by the next day.
Limiting it to two projects means I'm not tempted to keep moving on to new projects.
Dave Higgins Greenstar: a light-hearted homage to Buck Rogers and the other science-fiction series of the 80's.
Beauty in a Take Away Cup: an urban fantasy with a large dose of coffee.
And a collection of some science-fiction short stories.
