Mid Year Reflections

So 2018鈥檚 New Year came and I decided it would be the year I love myself better than all the past years put together鈥β I鈥檝e bought myself things I never would have, finished a two-year degree with a kick-ass GPA, got taken out on my first fancy dinner date ever, started investing, asked for a raise, grieved a death in the family, let go of relationships that weren鈥檛 serving me, and quit my job in insurance.听 I鈥檓 so glad!聽 I鈥檝e chosen my soul over money, made some cool new friends, read some delicious romances, and questioned my ultimate life purpose more times than I鈥檇 care to admit.听 It鈥檚 been a rough, beautiful year so far and I鈥檓 grateful.听 So many things have hurt me and are still hurting me, and I鈥檓 dealing with them in a (hopefully) healthy way鈥 but I鈥檓 stronger.听 I鈥檓 stronger than ever and really starting to get a taste of the power we have when we embrace our whole selves, not just parts, and stop giving credence to the baggage that other people assign to us.

Much love,

Abigail

Toxicity and Relationships

The longer you stay in a bad relationship the harder it is to see your worth .听 The situations and events I describe are purposefully vague to protect the not-so-innocent.

I never understood before how people could stay in relationships that were toxic.听 Whether it was with a significant other, a job, a best friend, or a family member.听 In the past, I have been quick to burn bridges with people who tried to manipulate me.

But not all relationships are that simple.

What if there was no sign of manipulation at the beginning?聽 What if there was genuine affection involved?聽 What if you received something you needed?聽 What if it all fell apart the moment you started to revel in your talents and receive more recognition than they did?聽 What if all the overdone displays of affection and adorable bossiness were revealed for what they truly were- ways to control you?聽 What if the sweet little check-ins were suddenly revealed as obvious attempts to get inside your head and hook you into co-dependence?

This is my recent experience with emotional and psychological damage while in a relationship: 聽

It started out idyllic.听 It was just what I needed, just what I prayed for, just what I wanted.听 It鈥檚 scary how even after I spotted the abuse, the rewards of this relationship were still high.听 Unfortunately, the costs were significantly higher.听 The emotional and psychological distress grew to the point of no return.听 My original hopes for our future became more and more obscured by the accruing track record of disappointments, broken trust, and frightening amounts of manipulation.

I didn鈥檛 want to quit on it.听 I wanted to push through and make it work.听 I wanted to be able to come out the other end of this tunnel with a smile on my face and look up to sky, shouting in triumph, 鈥淚t was worth it!鈥澛 But when promises are broken with flippancy, when you鈥檙e consistently bombarded with half-truths and mixed signals and phrases such as 鈥淵ou鈥檙e irreplaceable, I could never replace you鈥, 鈥測ou鈥檙e just not yourself today I鈥檓 really disappointed鈥, 鈥測ou need to learn to self-regulate鈥, 鈥測ou need to tell me how you鈥檙e feeling or else it鈥檚 not fair to me鈥, 鈥淚 expected you to be over this by now鈥, etc, even the most basic things in life, such as a conversation, become fraught with the possibility of a major blow-up.听 When you aren鈥檛 allowed to experience any negative emotions EVER, when you are constantly checked-in on, forced to report on your whereabouts鈥 I鈥檓 shuddering even as I write this, how long I stayed after I saw what was going on behind the scenes.听 When your mind becomes their platform to bully you according to their every whim, that鈥檚 when you can say for certain that the relationship is not only on the rocks; the relationship is not worth salvaging.

Why did I stay in it for so long?

Because I didn鈥檛 want to be weak.听 I didn鈥檛 want people to say that I 鈥渃ouldn鈥檛 handle a grown-up relationship鈥.听 I wanted to finish my two-year degree with minimal drama.听 Well, no more can I blame my situation on lack of sleep and the drudgery of constant lectures, quizzes, and tests.

Toxicity is leaching into my life from one big source.听 The relationship.

But when you have experienced such comfort, such potential, such excitement for so long, it is devastating to have to cut the cord.听 I鈥檓 plagued by fear-driven questions:聽 Where else can I find the security that I鈥檓 letting go of?聽 How long will it take me to get back to the place of independence where I was at before this happened?聽 I鈥檓 scared.听 Because I鈥檝e stayed too long.听 I鈥檝e stayed too long and now I hurt.听 I hurt all over.

***Dear readers who have experienced an emotionally abusive relationship, I now understand why you don鈥檛 think you can leave.听 I know how trapped you feel.听 How you feel like you鈥檙e no good for anything else.听 But that鈥檚 a lie. You are a vibrant, strong, and loving individual hidden underneath layers of pain and fear.听 You deserve better.听 And even as I work to extricate myself from the mess I鈥檓 in, I hope and pray that you will attempt it in your own situation, no matter how painful.听 The price is our sanity and our mental health.听 We must safe-guard it at all costs.***

All the best to you,

Abigail XOXO

Chubbuck and Wisdom

Welcome back to Imaginate with Abigail!

Here are some thoughts that have resonated this past week:

How well we live our lives depends on the grace with which we let loose strings dangle鈥.

How well we can let go of what-ifs and should-haves and concentrate on whatsinfrontofus and the peoplewhoneverbetrayedus. There are challenges and choices that are worth accepting, and one of them is to simply get out of bed in the morning.

I鈥檓 talking about the fact that sometimes, a pen carries life or death in its ink.

You know what the most beautiful buildings are made out of? Wood. Stone. And glass.

Just because you haven鈥檛 found something yet doesn鈥檛 mean it鈥檚 not out there, waiting for you.

So my week had a lot of musing in it (which it usually has) and also a lot of pain. My lower left wisdom tooth is coming in with a vengeance. There haven鈥檛 been tears yet, but there would have been if not for OTC drugs! Tylenol, I am your slave.

My newest YouTube video should be out this evening, where I talk about Ivana Chubbuck鈥檚 masterful techniques that sum up her acting method. She鈥檚 incredible, her twelve steps are incredible (I鈥檝e used them, they work wonders in the field), and her book is incredible. It鈥檚 one of my favorites and is THE most applicable acting book in print that I鈥檝e found. It gives you tools that you can employ the very first day you start learning them. Enjoy the video, I explore the twelve steps in some pretty good detail. Finding the book is easy, here is the link to it:

Wishing you the best in your creativity & always lots of love,

I seriously can find nothing to both entertain and enlighten me in the literary universe. When you no longer find books worth reading, you must write them yourself鈥

Have you ever had difficulty describing what you want, such as your deepest desires and dreams? The things I want aren鈥檛 even describable. I have this feeling about the things I want鈥 more like a lumped up idea where every part is needed to create a whole world鈥 not separated into items. There鈥檚 no real value I can assign to these. It鈥檚 either the whole package or nothing.

By the way, this word evokes a sensation I want to live in for the rest of the day: 鈥淲aldeinsamkeitsicht鈥 (n) the feeling of being alone in the woods. German.

Imaginate yourself away todayXOXOXO!!! Lots of love,

Norway

Hello everybody!聽 First of all, let me explain my absence.听 I am still writing- still 鈥渋maginating鈥 and still spinning stories!聽 Not sure when the next book will come out or if it will be Harbinger or not.听 It is a long journey finding where聽you belong.听 In fact, more of that here:

For certain people,聽change and growth and development聽happen at an聽inhumanly rapid pace.听 I, myself,聽scarcely get settled in one situation before I find myself having either mastered it or realizing that I am completely ill-suited for it.听 For years, I have despaired of ever finding a place to call 鈥渉ome鈥.听 A place that challenges me, yet quiets me.听 Brings me adventure and peace.听 Fills me with contentment, yet encourages me to grow.

I have found it- in a different country,聽in a small church,聽with a precious family.听 And the countless, wonderful new friends that seem more like family, brief though our acquaintance has been.

The story of how I came to Norway in the first place is a long one.听 Disclaimer: I am very bad at writing summaries,聽so I will try to聽keep it clipped.

My sister got married in June of 2014.听 She moved to Norway in May 2015 for her husband鈥檚 work.听 I visited her in August of 2015, fell in love with the place, and purposed to become an au pair.听 I came to Norway in December of 2015 and it only took me two weeks of living with the family to realize that it was not a good fit for either party, and by the grace of God, met and became fast friends with the other聽dear sweet family.听 They took me in with open arms, a stranger in a strange land, and invited me to live with them for however long I needed to, free of charge.听 However, they could not keep me to be their au pair since it was expensive.听 I lived with them in great happiness, playing with the children,聽learning Norwegian,聽and going聽with them to their church.

I have never been so welcomed by a family in all my life.听 I鈥檝e never found such warmth in a church body聽before.听 They are MY family,聽MY church- they are my people and I love them.

The irony is that, at the very moment I have found my life, I am called to lose it.听 Due to the fact that I am on a tourist visa, I must return to the US for some time before coming back.听 I come back in the summer, but聽depending on job circumstances both in聽the US and in Norway, my future is uncertain.听 I journey back to the US with pain and聽sadness coloring my heart and mind.听 I certainly don鈥檛 see how this could be part of His plan to take me away from my聽dear friends, surrogate family,聽and surrogate country.

I prayed to be able to stay, I worshiped, I trusted, I sought.听 But it is not His time for me.

The blessing within this is that I shall see my parents and some聽sweet friends back in Texas- I have missed them greatly and wish they would聽move to Norway with me eventually聽

World Building On Harbinger (post 2)

Hey all!聽 I will be attending the EPICon Conference in San Antonio over next weekend.听 Can鈥檛 wait to soak up all the wisdom and tips that will be discussed- writers, unite!聽 Hope to see you there :)

Meat of the post:聽 cultural tidbits regarding my next book, Harbinger Part One.听 Most of the story takes place on the planet of Deka, the very first planet in the Four-headed Galaxy, residing in the Deka Quadrant.听 (A lot of this information will be available in the back glossary of the finished book.)

Truth Extraction: A fatal probing of the mind- it finds the truth but destroys all of the neurons in the brain that were used when witnessing and storing the truthful thoughts. As the extractor combs through the brain鈥檚 data banks, everything is destroyed. You can learn a lot, but the subject never lives- unless there was a sectioned off bit that you knew of that you could get too without destroying anything else. Then it works without rendering the victim a vegetable.听 Elesion is the only nation on the continent of Angara that has not banned this procedure.

Skylark: A prankster, but a lovable one.

Tonic or herbal healing tea, Bracer: 鈥淭he morning bracer鈥- something that everyone on Deka besides Noble Elesioners openly adores. Since Elesion provides perfectly calibrated nutrients in tubes for the people, they 鈥渙nly鈥 get sick from tainted tubes. Elesioners don鈥檛 like to admit the fact that they often use homeopathy for simple things. The high-tech lifestyle isn鈥檛 foolproof, but to say so is a gross insult and misconduct in the presence of polite society.

Quench it: Shut it, shut up, be still.

Irascean grain rods: Grain that grows in cool, somewhat wet environments- similar to an Earthly reed on the banks of lakes and ponds and marshes. There are variations of this crop, some are edible, some are not.

Mr. Wallpaper: Term for a coward.

Dentar: A metal alloy that is extremely strong and can be made in different colors; the most popular choice glints like burnished gold.

Milo: Sweetheart, love, or my love.

Quadratants: Inhabitants of the Deka Quadrant.

Juiced: Drugged.

Hyper Doorway Attraction Disorder or Hyper Doorway Magnetism Disorder: There are three levels, the first two reside under the term HDAD (Hyper Doorway Attraction Disorder) and the third level is categorized under HDMD (Hyper Doorway Magnetism Disorder).

The most advanced studies on the disorder suggest it would be caused by an abundance of a certain genetic protein. But the doorway attractions don鈥檛 happen without a spike in human electromagnetic energy (neural impulses), so it is difficult to ascertain whether the impulses or the protein marker is the true cause. Most subjects that have been rigorously tested showed both theories to be in effect, though several subjects showed a marked preference for one over the other. There are differing schools of thought on the origins and possible miraculous meanings for such an affliction. The terms HDMD and HDAD are interchangeably expressed in non-scientific, everyday conversations. Average Deka Quadratants don鈥檛 appreciate the subtle differences.

Level One: Hyper Doorway Attraction Disorder. This is actually a fortuitous predisposition to have. While your body鈥檚 protein marker and/or magnetic nerve impulses attract doorways, they don鈥檛 affect you violently. You merely find doorways easy to access. You may come upon them at surprising times, but you are never compelled to enter them. You can choose which ones to ignore and can even coax a doorway into coming nearer to you for your convenience. All in all, the subject has the dominant position in this level. Level ones almost never progress to any greater stage, requiring only the most minimal medical supervision.

Level Two: Hyper Doorway Attraction Disorder. These subjects are designated as level twos. This is where it gets tricky. You find doorways easily and sometimes fall into them on sheer accident. There is a stronger genetic marker for this level. Subjects are often intellectually and/or artistically gifted. There is a distinct possibility that later in life your disorder could progress and become a level three Hyper Doorway Magnetism Disorder. Level twos need moderate medical supervision to maintain their health and safeguard against any furthering of their condition.

Level Three: This is full-blown Hyper Doorway Magnetism Disorder, the kind in which you are a constant, forceful magnet for Random Doorway Friction. There is no cure for any level three, yet.

There are two distinct kinds of level three HDMD, 1st degree and 2nd degree, and then a third category where the truly baffling cases are lumped into one group, called 鈥淰itals鈥.

1st degree HDMD is when heightened levels of electromagnetic impulses are carried within and used by your body, making your actual bodily composition less stable than normal humans. You are human, just more so. You react to things with a heightened level of emotion and often can reach higher levels of critical thought. Cataloguing mood swings, depression, unexplainable feelings of mental anguish, hysteria, and irrational anger can be helpful in diagnosing subjects with this disorder. Subjects have a tendency to lose bits of their sanity due to the mental strain and disorientation of being dragged through doorways you had no intention of venturing through. 1st degree subjects are often extreme risk-takers and heedless of their own safety. This heightened state of being is hard to sustain, and as such, most die at early ages, literally from 鈥渂urn out鈥 where their neurons can鈥檛 reproduce fast enough to save them from wearing out. The ones that aren鈥檛 extreme risk takers or have learned to curb that desire deal with their disorder by staying in one place throughout their lives, moving only within a specific radius of land in order not to ever get sucked into a doorway that is located outside that perimeter.

The second degree of HDMD is when you are simply a carrier for the protein, causing your body to store massive levels of electromagnetic energy within you, but without the ability to access it. More and more latent magnetic energy keeps building up over time and eventually it reaches a certain level that triggers the DNA protein to dissolve, causing a chemical reaction that kills every living tissue in your body. Strangely enough, the amount of poisonous solution this protein-trigger creates is precisely tailored to your body chemistry and is never greater than the amount it would take to kill you. You literally carry inside of you a code that can cause ultimate personal destruction to you and no one else at any time. When it happens, it will cause complete organ failure, akin to poisoning. The individuals with this 2nd degree disorder will always produce children that test HDAD or HDMD positive. Your deterioration can take place over any kind of time frame. It can take as long as forty years or it could be as short as four minutes after birth.

Vitals are the group of 3rd degree HDMD subjects that don鈥檛 show enough of a protein marker and display enough neural impulses to be diagnosed as HDAD/HDMD patients. They lack physical evidence to back up their claims. The abilities of Vitals are often bizarre, each of them unique, and the life span for the subjects differ radically. Some have all the patience in the world and others are more irascible than the worst 1st degree HDMD subject.

World-building On Harbinger (post 1)

Hey all! I鈥檓 switching things up here at . I鈥檓 going to focus more on world-building for the Deka Series instead of posting on a bunch of unrelated topics. Since my next book, Harbinger Part I, focuses on the Deka planet (the 1st planet in the Four-headed Galaxy), these next posts will hopefully follow that train of thought and cover more of the topics that are important/related to Deka.听 (Coming at least by winter of 2015, if not sooner!)

The planet of Deka has one continent called Angara. Angara is comprised of 5 nations: Elesion(maiden鈥檚 profile on the far left), Goth (shaped like a stingray), Malachi (the sack in the middle), Trania (the boomerang strip on the far right), and Andari (the Super Mario mushroom head on top).

Elesion(left), Goth, Malachi (middle), Trania (right), and Andari (top).

At the end of my 1st book, , there is some explanation about the ten main planets.听 Here are the particulars:

The Planets聽 (In consequential order, scattered throughout the Four-Headed Galaxy in the Deka Quadrant.)

Deka- the planet that has no animal life to speak of, 鈥渢he first planet,鈥 鈥渢he planet where life began,鈥 鈥渢he favored planet.鈥

Hecta- 鈥渢he melting pot鈥 of modern, urban, and tech-dominated lifestyles.

Kila- large, carnivorous, lumbering beasts reside on the surface of dried desert mud while a wide array of flowers, fruits, saps, and plant matter is found in the underground jungles where the tribes of inhabitants reside; 鈥渢he planet of clans.鈥

Mega- some smaller mammals reside here. Insects, rodents, and snakes breed only on this planet; 鈥渢he cradle of pestilence.鈥

Giga- a great, hungering evil lurks within the bowels of this planet, so much so that criminals are sent there through the Doorways to an inexplicit fate and are never heard from again. It has a pock-marked surface, leading down into a cavernous underground. The surface is blood red and rugged and mountainous. 鈥淭he dark planet;鈥 鈥渢he red planet;鈥 鈥減lanet of terror;鈥 quite literally 鈥渉ell.鈥

Tera- sea creatures are the only kinds of animals residing on 鈥淓arth鈥檚 planet;鈥 鈥淓arth鈥檚 twin.鈥 Known for its similarity to Earth; most 鈥渁ccidental immigrants鈥 choose to reside on Tera.

Peta- the only animals are bigger land mammals, a few rodents, and some fish on Peta. The populations that reside on Peta are among the most varied in custom (besides Hecta) and the most acquainted with Amaranth (besides Deka). The planet鈥檚 leaders agree not to take a stand for or against the Spirits; they try to ignore them.

Exa- a heavily industrialized planet constantly striving for greater inventions in steam, gas, and electric; set precedence on manners and polite conversation. 鈥淭he cradle of ingenuity;鈥 鈥渢he home of machinery鈥 鈥渢he foundation of modern science鈥 鈥渢he frame of civilization.鈥

Zetta- the planet most closed to Doorway travel and outside interaction; resolutely remaining within the quagmire that was the historical 鈥淎ge of Mysticism鈥 in the Quadrant. Also known as 鈥渢he isolated planet.鈥 Zettans are thought to be ignorant and stuck-up, whereas most of them are well-educated in the arts, philosophy, and classics; just afraid of bringing wrath down upon their people by being over-investigative.

Yotta- the last planet; blocked by an asteroid belt that is impossible to navigate. Yotta has not held a stable Doorway since the beginning of the 鈥淪ilence of Amaranth.鈥 Also known as 鈥渢he unknown planet;鈥 鈥渢he place of shaz.鈥

These are just the main planets, not taking into account the planetoids, moons, stars, asteroid belts, and space cities (if any- you never know!).听 Hope you have as much fun with this as I do!

Have a good Monday by yourself someplace beautiful and serene :)

Tips on Writing, Post 1

Helpful tips to answer the question: 鈥淲hat do I keep in mind while preparing a written work?鈥

This paradigm below can be helpful to get your point across tastefully and succinctly. Literary tools and tricks can be extremely useful for just about anyone in any area of life- school teachers, activists, social educators, writers, public speakers, students, researchers, scientists, marketers, and even business professionals and executives.

Disclaimer! The model below is meant to be loosely interpreted depending on your personal style and the genre of your WW (written work).

DEFINE:

1. What is the purpose of this WW?

2. What information or personal knowledge do I have that can make my WW more powerful?

DETERMINE:

1. What other works are similar and how can I hit the mark or improve off of them?

2. Do I know this topic enough to write coherently about it? If not, can I write about something else? If yes, great! Go find something interesting to write about! If not, learn about the topic. Immersion is a good way to go. If you鈥檙e writing about sky-diving, you鈥檙e probably going to have to experience it before you can write accurately about it.

3. What approach am I taking with this WW? Am I using persuasion, logic, heart, or humor? A mixture? Am I writing in 1st person, 2nd person, or 3rd person, or do I want to switch around?

4. What specific population is targeted with this WW?

5. How long will the WW be?

DEVELOP:

1. How do these topics interplay?

2. How does the material connect?

3. What questions need to be answered by the WW?

DONE:

1. Review for grammatical mistakes and continuity errors.

2. Market, distribute, publish, or turn it in to your professor or boss.

DISPERSE:

1. Who liked it and wanted more?

2. Was it easy enough to understand yet intriguing enough to keep their interest?

3. What were the sales or feedback?

3. How can I capitalize on the information collected on this for the next WW?

Good luck you guys!聽 Have a great week!

PS.听 Don鈥檛 forget to imaginate :)
