And the answer is...

Greetings, everyone! I hope this finds you all doing well. I know it's been some time since my last post here. As you're probably aware, I've been working on another project under a pen name, and it's been keeping me busy.
The good news is that the first book in my new series is out in stores now, and the second volume will be published this fall. And while I still haven't gotten permission to "officially" reveal the identity of my alter ego, it isn't really much of a mystery at this point. In fact, several people have noted the answer in their .
So, if you don't know the answer to the mystery yet, you can read through the comments to solve it. Or you can click on over to and do a search on "Mark Anthony". They've mistakenly put my real name on the entry for my new book instead of my pseudonym! (And no, it's not Girls from Da Hood 3!) Still haven't figured it out? Psst, come over here, I'll make it easy for you. Just click on over to and then you'll be in the know.
As I've mentioned, my new series is different from The Last Rune in many ways. And yet the heart of the story is similar--it's about people who must rely on their newly-discovered magical powers as well as their friendship to prevent a darkness from devouring their world. You know, I think Brother Cy would understand!

Well, now what?

As I mentioned in a previous post, it's been close to ten years since Beyond the Pale was published, and nearly four years since the last book in the series, The First Stone, showed up in bookstores. A lot of people have been asking me what's next after The Last Rune, and if I'm working on any new books.
The answer is...yes! I have been developing a new project for some time, and after several years of work it's finally going to be hitting bookstores later this year. It's a completely new world with all new characters.
So what is the new book? Well, not to be too cagey, but that's something I can't answer quite yet. I can tell you that it's not another book in The Last Rune series—that tale, wonderful as it was for me, has come to a close. I can also tell you that the new book is a fantasy. However, it's fairly different than my previous books. So different, in fact, that my publisher has decided to launch the book under a new pen name.
And that's where all the cloak-and-dagger stuff comes in. I've been asked by my publisher not to publicly reveal my alter ego just yet, so as not to spoil the secret. The good news is that I will be able to talk more freely about the new book once it's out. So keep checking back. As soon as I'm at liberty to reveal my other writing identity, you'll see the news right here. I'm very excited about the new project, and while it's different than The Last Rune, I also think it's very true to who I am as a writer, and also the best thing I've ever written. Stay tuned...

Thank you for all the emails

I'm amazed how often I still get emails about The Last Rune, either from someone who is new to the series, or from a reader who is a longtime traveler between Earth and Eldh.
As many of you have no doubt figured out by now, I'm not always (usually!) very good at responding. So let me apologize for that. It's challenging writing in addition to all of the other usual life duties, and working on my new book generally takes up what time I do have for composing words. I figure as much as people might like a response from me, I figure they'd like another book even more!
However, let me say that I do read every email that shows up in my inbox, and I truly enjoy and appreciate hearing your thoughts about The Last Rune. So if you are one of the ones who has taken the time to send me a note over the last few years, know that it was read, and that it meant a lot to me.
Speaking of emails, you should be aware that my email address has changed. The new address is: lastrune@me.com
While I can't promise I'll be getting better at responding to emails, I'll try to keep the frequently asked questions on this site updated, or post on the news page if there's I get a question I think many people would be interested in.

Welcome back to The Last Rune!

Hello everyone, and welcome (back) to my web site. I know it's been a while since there have been any updates, and I want to say thanks everyone who has taken the time to stop by hoping to learn what I've been up to.
I wish I could say I had been transported to Eldh, and that's why I haven't been around lately. However, I'm still a resident of Earth, and the reason for my absence is much more mundane: I've been busy working on my new writing project while juggling all the usual activities of life. (For those of you who've asked—yes, I do have a day job. Much to my shock, writing a paperback fantasy series is not the quickest way to get rich!)
It's been nearly ten years now since the first book of The Last Rune was published, and just about four years since the last book hit bookstores. It's hard to believe it's been so long. I feel like someone's broken the rune of time!
The series is getting a little hard to find in stores these days, but it's still in print, and I still get emails now and then—some from people who have just journeyed to Eldh for the first time, and others who have gone back for a return trip. I just want to take a moment to say how much I have appreciated hearing from all of you. Writing The Last Rune was a long, wonder-filled, and often challenging journey. It's been good to know I haven't been on this road alone.
