A little laugh escaped me. He arched a brow, a smile tugging at his lips. "What?"
"It's just so... common." Such an ordinary name, held by kings and peasants alike.
His smile deepened and he cocked his head to the side. It almost hurt to see him this way. "Will you say it?" he asked.
"Aleksander," I whispered.”

I was desperate for words to soothe her, but before I could find any, David bunched up his shoulders and said, 鈥淚 know metal.鈥

David furrowed his brow. 鈥淚聽鈥 I don鈥檛 understand half of what goes on around me. I don鈥檛 get jokes or sunsets or poetry, but I know metal.鈥 His fingers flexed unconsciously as if he were physically grasping for words. 鈥淏eauty was your armor. Fragile stuff, all show. But what鈥檚 inside you? That鈥檚 steel. It鈥檚 brave and unbreakable. And it doesn鈥檛 need fixing.”
